St. George, Utah – Alice Jones Holt Burgess, 91, passed away on December 12, 2016.  She was born March 9, 1925 in St. George, Utah and the second child to Isabelle Leavitt Jones and William Vaughn Jones.

A life-long resident of Washington County, she attended school in Veyo, Gunlock and St. George, Utah. She graduated from the Dixie College Nursing program.  She resided in LaVerkin, Utah for over forty years.

On April 21, 1943 she married Merlyn K Holt (deceased), She was married to J Burton Burgess, September 13, 2006, enjoying several happy years together until present time.

Merlyn and Alice were the parents of seven children: Carolyn (Farrell) DeMille, Marilyn (Ben, deceased) Brown, Lana Kay (Paul) Nickolaus, Danny Merlyn (Wendy) Holt, Bradford Ralston (Diane) Holt, Kim Layne Holt (deceased), Kelly Mark (Kimberly Dawn) Holt.

Alice enjoyed being a homemaker and was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She worked in various other jobs for over twenty years, including (old) Dixie Hospital, Zions Bank, Klothes Kloset and ABC shop before retiring in 1990.

A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Alice enjoyed serving in the Relief Society and attending the temple.

Her hobbies included: hunting, hiking, gardening, baking bread and making baby quilts.

Alice is survived by husband, J Burton Burgess, sister, Maurine Hoff, daughters: Carolyn, Marilyn and Lana Kay; sons: Danny, Brad and Kelly; sisters-in-law, Ferrell Jones and Mary Jones;

23 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and 34 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, LaVerne; brothers: Loren and Keith Jones, husband, Merlyn K; son, Kim Layne Holt, granddaughter, Shelly DeMille, grandsons: Cory Holt and Tanner James Holt.
