Obituary

St. George, UT - Our sweet Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend passed on, in the early morning hours of January 3, 2012. She is now in the embrace of her eternal companion, Richard W. Crabtree; and their three children: Stephanie, Billy and Bobby Crabtree.

Mom was born April 7, 1922 in Nebraska City, Nebraska to Bertha Alleen Shandy and Hugh Joseph Devlin. She spent the majority of her growing up years in Oregon and Idaho. She was raised with her younger brothers, Blaine and Dwight, and sister, Terese Devlin.

After high school, she headed to Salt Lake City to support the war effort. She had a great time being out in the world with good friends. She soon met Dad and they married August 13, 1943. It is fun to note that they eloped and caused quite a stir with the family. But, they were in love and wanted to be married before he went off to war. They began their large family as Dad was transferred to different bases while serving in the war. Her favorite location was North Carolina where she spent time on the beach with her three oldest children.

After the war, they moved to Idaho to set-up family roots. Mom was taken-in by the "Crabtree" cabin life in Island Park, Idaho. Many great memories and friendships were created in Idaho for Mom during these years. Then they moved to Moses Lake, Washington. Mom has enjoyed, over the years, deep-rooted relationships with her Idaho and Washington family and friends.

Dad provided well and Mom was able to stay home and raise their six children. Mom has great taste in home decor and clothing. She is a fantastic cook and housekeeper. Since Dad traveled quite extensively for his business, Mom was the constant in our lives. When their older children left the nest, Mom and Dad moved to Southern California to spend many relaxing years in the California sun. Later, desiring a cooler climate, they moved to Farmington, Utah for a few years, and eventually settled in St. George to retire.

Mom joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1955. She felt it important for her and Dad to be of the same faith in raising us. After losing two of her children, she was sealed to Dad and all her children, in the Los Angeles LDS Temple in October of 1977. We are assured a wonderful celebration is occurring in the heavens. It has been 10 years, this month, since she has seen Dad; 44 years since she has seen her oldest daughter, Stephanie; 34 years since seeing her son, Bobby; and 7 years since seeing Bobbys twin, Billy.

She is survived by her three children: David (Jo Ann) Crabtree of San Diego, CA, Richard (Debra) Crabtree of St. George, Utah and Allison (Chuck) Stuart of St. George, Utah; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. All are a great joy in her life.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Tonaquint Cemetery, St. George, Utah. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.

The family extends much gratitude and appreciation to Kolob Care Center for their sweet devotion to Mom during the last two months, Zions Way Hospice for their comfort, compassion and assistance; and Metcalf Mortuary for their strength and support. In lieu of flowers, take your Mom out to dinner.
