Obituary

St. George, Utah - Allene Kelsey Meeks, 85, passed away on July 12, 2013 while visiting family in Bountiful, Utah. She was born in Salt Lake City, March 15, 1928 to Newel and Esdale Kelsey. She grew up in Salt Lake City, graduated from East High School and Seminary, then attended BYU. She married Wells Meeks in the Salt Lake Temple on June 16, 1948. They moved to Jacksonville, Florida to purchase and run a Black Angus ranch and poultry farm and gave birth to 6 children. In 1960, they returned to Utah and purchase the Ranch Motel in Ogden. She later worked with her husband at Farmers Insurance, where their success won them many travel awards. She enjoyed traveling and loved visiting new places. She has been actively involved with her church, serving in Primary and Relief Society presidencies, as the ward Welfare Square coordinator, as a Cub Scout Den Leader, and as a teacher. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed making Barbie clothes for granddaughters, rag dolls, a wedding dress for her daughter, quilts, and 65 sets of full size Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls for her posterity on her 50th Anniversary. She was always thinking and doing for others. Her parents taught her how to work and she has worked hard her whole life. She has been called the "Energizer Bunny"! Allene loved her family deeply and is survived by 5 of her children, Welene (Gary) Richins (Las Vegas, NV), Heber (Malissa) Meeks (Murrieta, CA), Marlon (Ludovica) Meeks (Layton, UT), Dalane (Mark) England (Bountiful, UT), Lee (Cora) Meeks (Bountiful, UT), 31 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren as well as sisters Merilyn Wright and Janiel Thomas. She was preceded in death by her husband and her son, Allen. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. George LDS 9th Ward Chapel located at 550 East 700 South. A visitation will be held Saturday at the Chapel, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will follow services at Tonaquint Cemetery
