Enterprise, UT - Alma Woods Terry returned to his Heavenly Father on July 5, 2009 of natural causes. He was born on July 15, 1911 in Enterprise, Utah in the same home he lived and died 10 days short of his 98th birthday. On June 1, 1934 he married his hometown sweetheart, Helen Day in the St. George Temple. Dad had a great childhood growing up in Enterprise, receiving his early education there, but moved to Hurricane, Utah for his senior year and graduated there. He attended and graduated from Dixie College in 1934. To earn tuition money one year he calcimined the walls of the college buildings. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and faithfully accepted any calling received. He served a two year mission to the Uvada Stake. Together he and mom served a short mission to Eagle Valley, Nevada. They also served as Temple workers in the St. George Temple one winter. Dad and Mom began their family during the depression years. He helped his father on the ranch and farm. To earn much needed cash he mined in Pioche, Nevada, built trails on Pine Valley Mountain with the WPA and helped build the old Santa Clara Dam while in the CCC Camp. His first regular pay check from the Columbia Iron Mine was a milestone for the family. The mine closed 15 years later and Dad and Mom left Enterprise seeking employment. They started at the Grand Canyon and loved working with the young people who were there. They went on to St. George, Orem, Salt Lake City, and Springdale, Utah. During that time Dad did custodial work and managed motels and apartments. He always said, "There are good people wherever you go." After 8 years they returned home to Enterprise and worked with the senior citizens, driving a bus for 16 years without an accident. Dad loved his wife and family, his church, his music, gardening and being a " friend to all man." During high school and college he participated in musicals and operas. He sang many solos in church and funeral services and was known to sing his testimony. He was a member of the Mendolson Chorus in Orem, Utah, the Olympus Chorus in Salt Lake City and a life long member of the Enterprise Ward Choir. Dad is survived by his loving companion of 75 years, Helen; children: Ondrea Turnbeaugh of St. George, Utah, Alma Elmon (Jolene) of Payson, Utah, Henry Kent (Sandy) of Salt Lake City, and Julie Ann (Ross Hurst) of St. George, Utah; 16 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Luther Murkins Terry and Charlotte Malinda Woods; all of his siblings: Winnie Malinda, Luther Lafayette, Elvis Bird, Maribah Ann and Heber Grant; and one great grandson, Clark Terry. Funeral services will be Friday, July 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Enterprise Stake Center, 50 S. Center St., Enterprise, Utah. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Stake Center, prior to services. Interment will be at the Enterprise Cemetery.
