Obituary

St. George, Utah - Alvin James Hoggan, lovingly referred to as "Jim" was born on July 2, 1938, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.  He was born to Thomas Alexander and Ada Marie Hoggan. He was the youngest of three children.

Jim is survived by an older sister, Laura.  His older brother, Bill, and parents preceded him in death.

Jim received a formal education and then decided to pursue a welding trade which he mastered in the 60 years he worked.  He spent much of his spare time as a youth and adult, outdoors.  He loved to fish and hunt.  He often took his children and grandchildren fishing on streams and lakes as well as hunting in the mountains.  Because of him they, too, now love the great outdoors.  The only thing he loved more than these sports was his sweetheart of 70 years.  He met Eva Luz at a high school dance. That night he turned to his friend and said, "That is the girl I'm going to marry".  On September 21, 1957, he kept his word.  Jim and Eva were married on that beautiful fall day.  Time was not long enough for dad, so nine years later he and Eva had their love and family sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple.

They have been blessed with eight children: Cynthia Lyn, Donna Marie, Stephen James (deceased), Michael James, Yvonne Ann, David Lain, Jennifer Jean and Natalie Diane.  His quiver is certainly full with 37 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and counting.

Jim's love knew no bounds.  He was beyond generous and forgave freely.  His work ethic was unmatched.  And his counsel was full of experience and wisdom.  We are all better for having been taught by his example.

On June 5, 2023, surrounded by family near and far he abandoned his weakened limbs and walked boldly into immortality.  Someday when we join him, we hope he has pancakes on the griddle and our fishing rods ready.  Until then we'll remember who we are, take care of mom and strive to be a family forever.
