St. George, Utah - Amy Johnson Pyper Shafer,36, passed away February 7, 2013. She was born May 13, 1976 in Scottsdale, Arizona to Robert Johnson Pyper and Beate Pyper Pendleton. She married Jason D. Shafer on December 30, 1994 in St. George, Utah and were later sealed in the St. George LDS Temple.
Amy served in the Relief Society, Young Womens and Primary organizations in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed playing the flute, cake decorating, craft making, running marathons, hiking, camping, boating, swimming and other outdoor activities.
She graduated from Dixie State College. She worked as a Pharmacy Technician, Beautician and Home School Teacher. She was an excellent homemaker, enjoying reading and teaching her children. She made many trips to soccer games, dance and music activities. She showed many forms of unselfish compassionate service.
Amy is survived by her husband, Jason; her children: Kayla Nicole Shafer, Kandice Michele Shafer, Kaden Jace Shafer and Kasi Lynnette Shafer; her mother, Beate Pyper Pendleton; and her siblings: Melanie Pyper Montrelli, Robert E. Pyper, Michele Pyper McLaughlin and Maria Pyper Novak. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Johnson Pyper and her sister, Monique Pyper Walsmann.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Snow Canyon LDS Stake Center, 1184 North Dixie Downs Road, St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd. and on Tuesday, prior to services, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Stake Center. Interment will follow services at the Ivins City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Southern Utah Federal (Southwest Community) Credit Union in memory of Amy Shafer. These funds will be used for the future care of her children.
