Obituary

St. George, Utah – Anna Neilson Tietjen, returned home to her Heavenly Father on July 4, 2024, at the age of 99. Anna was born on February 11, 1925, in St. George, Utah to John T. and Ella B. Neilson. She was the 9th of 11 children and has two brothers still living, LaGrand and Clayton Neilson. She loved her siblings dearly and had so many wonderful memories with them growing up in the Washington fields.

Anna married Maurice M. Tietjen from Kanab, Utah, who she met at a dance in St. George, on May 3, 1944, and shortly after his service in the military they moved to Los Angeles, California. They had five children: Stephanie (Ron) Iacono St. George Utah, Leslie Johnson (deceased), Brad (Mae) Tietjen San Diego CA, Debbie (Gaylon) Steiner Salem Utah, Mark Tietjen (deceased).

Anna worked as a secretary for several businesses, but her favorite job was working as a purchasing agent for the Bureau of Land Management (St. George). She loved the people she worked with and enjoyed many fond memories there.

Anna loved Christmas, she and Dad always made it special. Red lights around the entire house and a white flocked tree every year. She loved to bake during the holidays so there were lots of great treats at Christmas time.

Anna was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many Ward and Stake callings. She loved the Savior and deeply felt His presence in her life. We are grateful as a family to know she is now at peace in His loving arms.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice; daughter, Leslie; and son, Mark. She is survived by three children, 14 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.

Our family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to all who helped in so many ways caring for and uplifting our mother from wonderful friends and neighbors, Ministering Elders, ward Sisters, and Hospice caretakers. A special thank you from the family to Stephanie and Ron for their tireless care for her in her last years of life.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the Bloomington Stake Center, 200 West Brigham Road, St. George, Utah.
