IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Arlene Spencer
Coulson
May 13, 1939 – November 12, 2024
St. George, Utah – Arlene Spencer Coulson, 85, left her family on this side of the veil on November 12, 2024. She was born on May 13, 1939, in Logan, Utah to Phil Muir Spencer and Ruth Wennergren Spencer. She was raised in Evanston, Wyoming where she graduated from Evanston High School. She was employed at the Evanston First National Bank prior to moving to Salt Lake City in 1958. After moving she worked at The Continental Bank followed by working at The Federal Reserve Bank. It was in Salt Lake City that Arlene met her companion, James Allen Coulson. From this marriage she instantly gained two sons, Glen Riley Coulson and James Lavar Coulson. Jim and Arlene had two children, Kent Lee Coulson and Kristin Sue Coulson.
Some of Arlene's most memorable moments were being with family at Bear Lake Reservoir. She felt that was as close to Heaven as you could get. Many wonderful friends and memories were made as she and Jim spent the summers as a family at this beautiful place.
Being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was very important to her. She was active in her church and the people in her ward were a part of her family. She loved the Savior and was very grateful for all the blessings she had been given. Many of Arlene's most cherished times were her 16 years of service at the St. George Temple. She served from 2003-2019, at which time the St. George Temple was closed for remodeling. When the Temple was closed her entire world changed. She loved the presidencies she worked under and those she worked alongside with, not counting the many patrons that also became special to her. Arlene felt she had lost a part of her family without the association of so many wonderful people.
During the years Arlene did a lot of family history for both Jim's lineage as well as her own Swedish lineage. In the research she found that she and Jim were related through their Swedish ancestors. She also loved finding people through this work to assure their Temple work was done.
Arlene is survived by her husband, Jim Coulson; children: Glen (Sharla- deceased), James, Kent (Laurie), and Kristin (Neal) Maycock; 14 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Richard (Paula) Spencer; sisters: Janice (Paul) Hyde and Renae (Dan) Forbush; brother-in-law, Ellis (Sharon- deceased) Jensen; and many nieces and nephews that would stop at their home in St. George during spring break and even after they were married.
Special thanks to Wayne Beck, Brian Ashcroft and The Summit Home Health and Hospice staff.
