Obituary

St. George, Utah – Arlene Christensen Peacock, age 80, passed from this life in February of 2024.  She was born to Therion E. and Hilda C. Christensen in September of 1943 in Richfield, Utah.  She was the second of four siblings: Ann, Gayle, Jerry and Jan.  She attended school in Annabella and Monroe, Utah, and Meridian, Idaho.

She was baptized as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at age eight in Annabella.  She graduated from Primary and advanced through her Young Women classes and graduated from Seminary.

Growing up, she loved her friends, swimming, ice skating, dancing, roaming the nearby foothills, riding her horse, camping at Fish Lake and Cove Mountain. She helped herd cattle up Cove Mountain in the spring and fall. She worked summers in the beet fields, detasseled corn and thinned apples. She also worked at Birdseye Frozen Foods, then at Bon Marche' in the credit office.

During the summer of 1957 her family moved to a farm seven miles from Meridian, Idaho where she began eighth grade.  She graduated from Meridian High in 1961 where she was on Student Council and then elected as sophomore class president.  She was in Pep Club, and she was both Junior and Varsity cheerleader.  She attended Girls State, held the state office of Recreation Chairman in the Future Homemakers of American, was on the Annual Staff, was a member of FFA, and was in the National Honor Society.  She received a scholarship to Brigham Young University for her achievements in scholarship and art.  She was a gifted artist and excelled in both oil and water painting.  While at BYU she worked for Travel Study as a secretary and in advertising using her art skills.

At the beginning of her junior year at BYU she met the love of her life, George Morris Peacock at a joint activity for Intercollegiate Knights and Spurs Service Units.  The following year in September of 1963, they were married in the Manti Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for time and all eternity. After their marriage they both continued their studies at BYU.

In the fall of 1964, after George graduated, they received the good news that George was hired to teach seminary in Shelley, Idaho. While there, Morris James and Jolene Kay were born.  During summer of 1967 they moved to Springville, Utah so George could teach seminary and continue pursuing his master's degree, and Arlene completed her bachelor's degree. While living in Springville, four more children were born; Bryan George, Bart Daniel, Todd Christopher who was premature and only lived a few days, and Scott Guy.

Because our mom needed a warmer climate for health reasons, our family moved to St. George, Utah in 1978. George worked for the Church Education System for 33 years, and Arlene worked at West Elementary teaching reading for five years, and she loved teaching and enjoyed the people she worked with. She enjoyed a clean house that she had so much fun decorating, sewing, quilt making, scrapbooking, family history, gardening along with fruit and vegetable bottling, traveling, boating, being with family, chatting and time with her sisters, daily life and dates with George.  She loved getting ready for holidays and special occasions. There were always new pajamas for the grandkids for Christmas, and in later years there was always a chocolate orange given.  Birthdays were always celebrated with a cake and presents that were thoughtfully picked out.  Mom was instrumental in all of her sons receiving their Eagle Scout Awards and serving LDS Missions.  She helped plan beautiful weddings for each of her children.

During the summer of 1977 they went on a three-week tour of the Holy Lands including Italy, Greece, Egypt, Syria, Israel and Jordan.  Some of the other places they traveled to were San Diego, Los Angeles, Vancouver BC, Calgary, Lake Louise; and a trip where they visited the southern states where George served his mission, nine states in all, also including seeing Mt. Rushmore, Florida and many mid-western states.

During their time in St. George, they were blessed to live in Green Valley, St. James Lane, and the Knolls areas.  In each place, they made lifetime friends and had opportunities to serve and be served.  We are grateful to those who lived in these Wards and neighborhoods who loved and ministered to Mom and continued to minister to her during her time at Beehive Home, especially after Dad's passing.  She had cherished friends from her youth that still kept in touch with her and that was so special to her.

George and Arlene served in the St. George Temple as ordinance workers for many years.  She served in many callings mostly in the Relief Society and in Young Women's, and also served as a Seminary Teacher and a Stake Missionary.  She had deep feelings for Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ.  She stayed true to her values and covenants throughout her life.

Arlene wrote that she's been blessed with the Church, husband, children, 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, dear friends and family that she loves.

Arlene is preceded in death by her parents, Therion and Hilda Christensen; her husband, George Morris Peacock; her son, Todd Christopher Peacock; and great-grandson, Bronson Kaden DeMille.

She is survived by her siblings: Ann (Leon) Huber of Meridian Idaho; Gayle (Bob) Farnsworth of Ft. Meyers, Florida; Jan (Brent) Hyatt of Twin Falls, Idaho; and Jerry (JoAnn) Christensen of Nampa Idaho; her children: Morris (Mary) Peacock, Jolene (Dale) Ipson, Bryan (Shauna) Peacock, Bart (Fresia) Peacock, and Scott (Gayla) Peacock, all of St. George, Utah;  grandchildren: Amber, Aubrey, Austin, Tanner, Leighton, Kyle, Joshua, Brayden, Jason, Sam, Alyse, Trent, Mia, Bailey, Mishawn, Kason, Shakell, Trevor and Jaxton; and great-grandchildren: Kennadee, Bronson (deceased), Adilynn, Brant, Olivia, Nathan, Daniel, Elise, Emily, Jacob, Raegan, Henry, Eliza, Peter, Madeline, Finn, Lylah, Ivie, Opal, Harlo, Cora and Faron.

As a family, we wish to express our gratitude for your many kindnesses.  We are especially indebted to The Beehive Home on River Road for their loving care for over six years, and to Applegate Homecare & Hospice for their care as her health declined and during her passing.
