Obituary

Hurricane, Utah - Arthur Stanley Vick passed away Feb.26,2012 at the age of 96 surrounded by loving family. He was born Dec.16, 1915 in Poole, Dorset, England to Valentine David Vick and Louisa Eliza Glen. He lived in Poole until the age of 18 when he moved to London to work as a carpenter and then volunteered into the Royal Honourable Queen's Artillery Company before WWII began. He met Rita Helsdon when they were both bombed out of their homes during the London blitz, who he married June 1, 1941. His 3 children were to follow- all still surviving; Annette(1/14/44), then Bryan(9/20/45) and later Charles(3/30/1952). He immigrated to Ontario, Canada in June,1954 with Bryan. His wife and younger children would later follow in December of 1955. To find more stable employment he later moved to Rochester, NY where he worked for Eastman School of Music and then Eastman Kodak, as a finish carpenter.

He and his family joined the LDS Church in September 1960 and he served in many callings including Scout Master, Home Teacher, Co-coordinator of Parking for Hill Cumorah Pageant, and he and his wife would later serve Temple missions in the Washington,D.C. and the St George Temples. He trained German Shepherds for the London Police and his favorite dog Roger won many awards.

After retirement in1979, he moved to Hurricane to build a home and enjoyed planting a rose garden for his wife and and taking long walks with his dog. He will be remembered in love by family and friends for his many talents, his great stories, his strong work ethic, his courage to tackle new adventures and his commitment to family history and temple work. He loved chocolate, hugs, traveling, and was an example to his entire family of the blessings to be found in living the Lord's Plan of Happiness. He is also survived by 14 grand and 29 great grandchildren. We are so grateful that he made it home for your birthday Mum!

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hurricane LDS 7 th Ward Chapel, 155 East 1050 North, Hurricane, Utah. Visitations will be held Wednesday evening, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Metcalf Hurricane Valley Mortuary, 140 North Main Street and on Thursday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel. Interment will follow services at the Hurricane City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Hurricane Valley Mortuary, (435) 635-9922.
