Obituary

ST. GEORGE, UTAH - Barbara Louise Apperson passed away February 24, 2011. She was born May 26, 1925 in Beaver, Utah to Karl and Ruby Tolton Grimshaw. Barbara lived in the Beaver Canyon most of her childhood, where her father worked for the Telluride Power Company. She graduated from Beaver High School in the Top 10 of her class. During World War II she married her high school sweetheart, LeGrand Cannon (Bud) Cramer. Their son, Craig was born in Salt Lake City in 1943. After the war they moved to Los Angeles, California where their daughter, Carolyn was born in 1949. They divorced in 1952. Barbara continued to live in southern California with her children while working as a PBX Operator and Medical Secretary. While living in San Diego, California she met Robert W. Apperson and they were married August 7, 1959 in Santa Barbara, California. They later moved to Sacramento, California where she worked as an Executive Secretary for the State of California. During the 1970's she and her husband, a Consulting Engineer, lived in Iran and Guyana, South America. In 1979 she returned to her home in Fair Oaks, California, and her career with the State of California while her husband continued working overseas. In 1992 they moved to St. George, Utah where their marriage was solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple. Barbara was a good cook and housekeeper, and loved flowers and gardening. She loved animals, especially cats and dogs, and always had pets. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in Primary, Mutual, and Relief Society. Barbara is survived by her son, Craig (Donna) Cramer of St. George; her daughter, Carolyn (Robert) Dixon of Sacramento; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; her brother, Ronald; and grandson, Matthew Dixon. A visitation will be held Friday, March 4, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. at the Mountain View Cemetery in Beaver, Utah. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, 435-673-4221.
