Obituary

St. George, UT - Barbara Wells Crook Friedel, age 86, passed away on Thanksgiving, November 26, 2009 in Las Vegas, NV. She was born December 16, 1922 in Salt Lake City, Utah to John G. Crook and Clarice Thorpe Wells Crook. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and wonderful friend. Barbara graduated from East High School in 1940 and then attended the University of Utah for three years. She married Harold Martin Friedel, Jr. on July 28, 1944 in Phoenix, Arizona. They were later sealed in the St. George Temple on June 13, 1964. During their marriage, they lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, Las Vegas, Nevada for 44 years, and then they have resided in Bloomington, UT for the last 10 years. Barbara was committed to serving in each community when she lived. She was actively involved in the Girls Scouts, Boy Scouts, PTA, the Pan-Hellenic Board for Delta Gamma, the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and the Huntsman Senior Games. She graduated from the University of Nevada Las Vegas at the age of 48, and taught Elementary School for 20 years. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various capacities of the youth programs, Relief Society, and an Ordinance Worker at the Las Vegas Temple for 9 ½ years and has served over the Empty Nesters for the last 10 years in Bloomington. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother, Richard W. Crook of Cornwall, England, daughter, Nancy Lynn Friedel Donald, and three grandchildren. Remaining family members include: husband, Harold Martin Friedel, Jr., Harold Martin Friedel III (Sherry); Thomas John Friedel, (Julie) all of St George; Debra Joan Friedel Daley (Michael Daley) of Tucson, AZ; James Richard Friedel (Michelle) of Las Vegas, NV, sister, Rosemarie C. Glissmeyer of Salt Lake City, UT; and 19 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 30, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bloomington LDS 4th Ward Chapel, 3381S. Mulberry St., Bloomington, Utah. Visitations will be held Sunday, November 29th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah and on Monday from 12:30 p.m to 1:30 p.m. at the chapel, prior to services. Interment will be at the Tonaquint Cemetery.
