Obituary

Santa Clara, Utah – Barbara Ann Helm Stephens lived 90 wonderful years on earth, but she couldn't live mortal forever as her family hoped and wanted. Barbara "expired" (her word) on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at home in her favorite chair in Santa Clara, Utah.

Barbara was not alone but had the hands of her caring granddaughters and daughters as she slept. Many other friends and family members near and far had her in their thoughts and prayers for months, even years, and this early morning was no different.

Barbara was a long-time resident of Southern California, being the first born to Harold Helm and Annie Widmann Helm in Santa Barbara, California on July 22, 1934.

The family rejoices in the reunion in heaven where Carl Osborne Stephens Jr was waiting for his bride. Barbara Ann Helm married Carl O. Stephens Jr on September 12, 1952. Although living in Los Angles at the time, being married for time and all eternity was important to them so they drove all the way to the St George Temple in Utah to make an eternal bond of matrimony. Carl preceded Barbara in death 16 years ago, after 56 years of marriage.

Barbara and Carl loved the Ojai Valley and lived 44 years there, working, playing, and raising their seven children in this beautiful place.

Together, Barbara and Carl owned and operated the Shell Gas Station in Oak View (1968-1973), enjoyed working together for the Los Padres National Forest Service until they both retired (1970-1984), and owned and operated Video Adventures store (1984-1994).

Barbara knew her Redeemer, Jesus Christ. We believe she still knows, more firmly now, that He lives and loves her and all her posterity. She is a firm believer that because of Jesus Christ and His gospel of love, repentance, baptism and forgiveness, her family will be together forever.

Barbara's posterity is numerous. She is survived by her children: Laura Jean Murray (stepdaughter), Deborah Ann Burnett, Rhonda Mae Hlebasko, Dallas Helm Stephens, Carl Osborne Stephens III, D. Anna Sampson (foster daughter), and Dana Marie Moser. Barbara loved them all equally. These children have provided 31 grandchildren, 116 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. Barbara's surviving siblings are Robert Helm and Bonnie Helm Harris with one brother, Rex Helm, who greeted Barbara in heaven, along with her husband and parents and many others.

All who knew Barbara are invited to attend any of these 4 celebratory services honoring this amazing woman before we put her body to rest.
