Martin Olson
September 6, 1925 – February 22, 2025
Beatrice Vivian Martin Olson passed away February 22, 2025. She was born in Ladysmith, Wisconsin on September 6, 1925, to George Henry Martin and Vivian Violet Mae Clark. She attended elementary and high school Ladysmith, Wisconsin. Beatrice has three sisters, Ferndell, Violet and Bernice. Her father worked at the paper mill there and she spent many happy days visiting her grandfather's farm and playing with the farm animals. The sisters were all close and enjoyed their time growing up together in a small town.
During her high school years World War II hit and many of the young men went off to war. Bea traveled with a local family to Washington State to act as a nanny for their children. While in Bremerton, Washington she met Charles Kenneth Olson who was stationed there in the U.S. Navy. They fell in love and were married in Silversdale, Washington on January 17, 1944.
After his stint in the Navy, Bea and Kenneth moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where he grew up. They lived with his parents and while their first child, Sharon Lee Olson was born. Kenneth attended University of Utah and Bea raised their daughter. Later they moved to the Salt Lake Avenues and their second child, Charles Martin Olson, was born. Keneth started working for a hospital supply company and the family moved to Atlanta, Georgia. While there the third child was born, George Kenneth Olson. The family was transferred to Cheyenne, Wyoming where they lived for a short time. They moved back to Utah to be close to his parents who were aging. They lived in Sandy, Utah for many years. Their fourth child, Lori Elizabth Olson and fifth child, Brian Keith Olson were born in Sandy. While living in Sandy they made many close lifelong friends. They enjoyed bowling and playing cards with their friends. Bea loved to cook (especially for family and friends), crocheting afghans, gardening (especially roses), and gambling in Mesquite, NV. She had many collectable plates that she purchased through the years. Bea was a strong-willed woman who overcame many hardships and adversities.
Kenneth worked for Motorola for many years and was then transferred to California. The family lived in Placentia, Caifornia and loved the beautiful area. Kenneth bought a sweeping company, and Bea helped him with all the bookwork. When they retired thy moved to St. George, Utah to be halfway between all their married children. They made many new close friends while living there. Kenneth passed away December 15, 2005. Bea continued to live in their home until she was no longer able to due to health reasons. She currently lived at Spring Gardens Assisted Living in St. George, Utah.
Bea was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Ferndell, Bernice and Violet; her loving husband, Kenneth; and her sweet daughter, Sharon Lee Olson Nemanic. She is survived by her children: Charles Martin (Kathie) Olson of Coalville, Utah, George Kenneth (Martha) Olson of Pearce, Arizona, Lori Elizabeth (Dan) Arzaga of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Brian Keith Olson of Twin Falls, Idaho. She has 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The family would like to thank the staff at Spring Gardens Assisted Living for their kindness, patience, and compassionate care of Bea. A special thank you to Brenda and Mitch of Spring Gardens and Grant Needham, Physician Assistant who always called her Honey Bee.
A small service will be held Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, Millcreek, Utah, with a graveside service to immediately follow in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
