Obituary

St. George, Utah - Berle June Jaynes Heaton, 88, died peacefully, Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011 surrounded by her loved ones. Berle Heaton was born August 5, 1922 in Paris, Missouri to her loving parents, Laura and Fred Jaynes. After being baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a young girl, Berle continued to love the gospel and had a strong and lasting faith in its teachings. She served an LDS mission in the Philippines at the age of 67. Berle took pleasure out of many things. She loved a good joke, she loved pink roses, and she loved literature. She would often recite poems to her children, grandchildren, and friends. Among her favorites were Shakespeare, Dickinson, and Longfellow. Berle was very gifted with words and wrote poetry of her own, most notably her annual Christmas poems, which she read with The Southern Utah Heritage Choir. Berle was very active in her community. She was known to many as "Grandma Woodward," after working with the students of Woodward Elementary. She was also a member of the Dixie College Theater Council and an honored member of the St. George Literary Arts Club. Berle spent many years working at The Washington County Recorder's Office and many satisfied guests will fondly remember Berle's kitchen at The Hampton Inn. Despite some of the hardships that Berle endured during her life, she continually "Chose to be Wonderful," and will always be remembered thus. She is survived by her five children: Bill, Gary, Russell, Tim, and Klissa, and their spouses, as well as her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 29, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the St. James LDS Ward Chapel, 1095 East St. James Lane, St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Friday prior to services from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Chapel. Interment will be at the St. George City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the LDS Missionary Fund or The Southern Utah Heritage Choir. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
