St. George, UT - Bernard Earl Yeager, age 90, passed from this life on November 20, 2013 in Salt Lake City, UT from natural causes. He was born on November 19, 1923 in Reading, PA to George and Pearl Yeager. He married Dorothea John in the Bronx, New York, NY on August 14, 1948.
Bernard was raised in Reading, PA with his two brothers, Floyd and Elburn and two sisters, Melba and Janet. When WWII came, he volunteered to join the Navy in 1942. He served in China as a code breaker decoding Japanese messages. After the war, he graduated from Drexel University, married and raised his family of seven children in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. He provided many years of church service in New Jersey including being the 1 st Bishop of the LDS Church in South Jersey.
Bernard worked for many years selling specialized truck bodies for Boyertown Bodyworks. He then ran the east coast terminal for England Trucking until he retired and moved with his wife to St. George in 1985. He served in various capacities in the church including the St. George Temple and a mission with his wife at the Church Historical Sites around St. George.
His beloved wife and son, Drew preceded him in passing. He is survived by his daughters: Christine Young, Pamela Wright, Wendy Brickel and Thea Clark; sons, Stuart and Craig; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 25, 2013 at 11.00 a.m. in the Sego Lily Chapel of the LDS Church located at 10310 S. Ashley Park Dr., Sandy, UT. A visitation will be held Monday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel. Interment will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Tonaquint Cemetery, in St. George , UT. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
