Obituary

St. George, Utah - Beverly Robbins Metcalf, 86, passed away May 17, 2015, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. Beverly was born in Springville, Utah on August 21, 1928 to Lyman LaVan and Helen Amelia Gottfredson Robbins. She was the oldest of three children. Beverly married Kenneth Robertson Metcalf on June 11, 1947 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They moved to San Francisco, Calif. where Kenneth attended the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science. They worked at mortuaries in Idaho, Ogden, Provo, Springville before purchasing the Cannon Funeral Home in St. George, Utah in 1967, remodeling and naming it Metcalf Mortuary. Beverly loved the people of St. George and knew it would be a great place to raise her family. Beverly worked hard, alongside her husband, for many years to maintain and operate the mortuary and make it a beautiful place for the public. They had the wonderful opportunity to serve many people in the community. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was a very important part of Beverly's life. She served in many callings including Primary President, Relief Society President, Stake Relief Society, and Ordinance Worker in the St. George LDS Temple. She and her husband were called to preside over the Michigan, Lansing Mission. She served six years in the St. George LDS Temple as assistant matron and matron while Kenneth served as counselor and temple president. Beverly loved life, but most of all she loved her family. Family events and holidays were very important to her. She was a great hostess, loved to decorate, and was an excellent cook. She also tried her hand at oil painting and needlework. But most of all, she was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Her sense of humor kept everyone happy. She cultivated the spirit of love and kindness wherever she was. Beverly is survived by her children: Terry (Brad) Cottam, St. George, UT; Kris (Jeff) Feltwell, Santa Clara, UT; Rick (Juliana) Metcalf, Orem, UT; Ron (Cindy) Metcalf, St. George, UT; Jan (Larry) Sisneros, Syracuse, UT; sister, Darla Phillips, Salt Lake City, UT; brother, Richard (Fara) Robbins, American Fork, UT; 28 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. Beverly was preceded in death by her daughter: Debra Metcalf; and her husband, Kenneth R. Metcalf. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Southgate LDS 1st Ward Chapel, 1068 West Chandler Drive, St. George, Utah.
