Obituary

Morgan, Utah Roberta "Bobbie" Jean Johnson, our beautiful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend to so many, graduated from this earthly existence on April 14, 2023, from age-related symptoms, surrounded by loving family members at the age of 92.

Roberta "Bobbie" Jean Blankinship was born in Randle, Washington on June 16, 1930, to Della Peters Blankinship and Evan Stralia Blankinship. Her mother passed away when she was only 5 1/2 years old. Her father later married Doras "Mildred" Myers, who became 'mom'. She attended school in Randle then attended college in Bellingham, Washington where she met Bobbie "Bob" Johnson, who was serving in the Navy and stationed on Whidbey Island, WA. They married on May 6, 1950, in Randle, Washington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobbie Gene Johnson (Washington, UT); mother, Della Evangeline Peters Blankinship (Randle, WA); father, Evan Stralia Blankinship (Randle, WA); sister, Eilene Blankinship Melton (Fremont, CA); and sister, Jenna Lee Blankinship Cain (Randle, WA).

She is survived by daughters: Wanda (Jim) Judy (Morgan, UT), Sharon (Kyle) Bowen (Richland, WA), and Terri Jones (Salt Lake City, UT); sister, Louiseanne Fugate (Randle, WA); and sister-in-law, Shirley Johnson Cellarius Steinke (Florence, Montana).

By coincidence, Mom and Dad's first and middle names were the same. Dad's name was Bobbie Gene, (correct spelling, and not short for Robert), and Mom's was Roberta Jean "Bobbie Jean". This was a source of confusion initially, but they became known and referred to as Bob and Bobbie, or Bob and Bobbie Jean.  They married in Randle, WA. and had three daughters, Wanda, Sharon, and Terri, whom they considered their greatest accomplishment in life and their greatest joy.

Mom and Dad were inseparable in whatever they did, whether it was spending time with family, working together side by side in their shoe repair shop (first in Newport, WA, and then later in their shop in St. George, UT), church-related callings, or playing music together. When Dad decided to learn to play the fiddle, Mom was determined to be part of the fun by learning to play the guitar. They were both around 50 years old when they started this new hobby, showing us all that you are never too old to start something new. Together they participated in many old-time fiddling events throughout the region and within their local community.  It was a life-changing highlight during their later years!

Mom and Dad were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and later married in the Seattle, WA. LDS Temple. They had many callings in that capacity. One of Mom's favorite callings was that of the nursery leader. She loved little children and loved watching them grow up, get married, and have babies of their own. She and Dad served a mission together in the Family History Center in St. George, Utah. After Daddy passed away, she continued that work at the local church and found it to be a great source of satisfaction. She worked with some that remained her dear friends and she enjoyed it very much.

Mom was always so grateful for her family and friends. Her family meant everything to her! She was a loving devoted wife to her beloved husband, mother/friend to their three daughters and their children. Known as "Grasmy", she would often say "I have to stay around for all these grandbabies, including the ones that are still coming!".  Mom was exemplary in countless ways. She was always so kind, loving, hard-working without complaints, always ready, and willing to serve others in any way she could. Mom loved to garden. She loved it when the birds and occasional bunnies would visit her yard. She loved light!  She loved the sun.  She loved all of Mother Nature.  She loved life!

Mom lived life to the fullest in her own quiet way. Then she surprised us all by deciding to celebrate her 80th birthday by going skydiving. She absolutely loved it and wanted to go again!

Mom exuded love. She radiated love. No one ever doubted her love for them, especially her family.

Mom has always had child-like faith and trust in God, and in miracles. Doubtless, she could have walked on water if she had wanted to. She loved Jesus Christ, and always lived her life following His example.

We thank you Mom for all you've done for all of us, for your examples of self-sacrifice, charitable service, never-ending love, and forgiveness, for your positive nature always seeing the glass half-full, being a good sport, by 'rolling with the punches', and always seeing the good in others. You left us all with the greatest gift, the gift of exemplifying the pure love of Christ. We love you so very much, our angel Mommy!

We would especially like to thank Suncrest Hospice Services for all they did for Mom and our family. Their commitment and dedication went above and beyond the call of duty. Their professionalism was unsurpassed.  They continually demonstrated compassion and devotion to her and her care.  We will be forever grateful! Thank you.
