Obituary

St. George, UT - Brent Esplin Snow passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 17, 2025, in St. George, Utah, just a week after he had a heartwarming birthday celebration with his family. He was born to Jeter Clinton "JC" and Wanda Esplin Snow on December 8, 1937. He married Eula D'On Andrus in the St. George Temple on May 31, 1958.

Brent grew up on the St. George Boulevard in a time where all who came to Southern Utah passed by his home. He loved to listen to baseball games on the radio, and he memorized the players and their stats. In seventh grade band class he met his sweetheart, D'On, when she accompanied him on the piano as he played his cornet. It was the beginning of a relationship that extended for seventy-six devoted years. Always willing to share their time and talents, they continued to use their music to bless others throughout their lives, playing duets for countless funerals and other events. Brent played the cornet with an emotional intensity and tonal richness that touched his listeners.

Brent was a gifted scholar. He had rheumatic fever as a child, and his father would come home from work and together they would practice math until he could add rows and rows of numbers in his head. He graduated with honors from Dixie College and the University of Utah, earning a bachelor's and master's degree in business administration (MBA). He served in the Utah National Guard for six years during this time.

Brent and D'On briefly settled in Roy, Utah with their first two children where he worked as an assistant manager at Albertsons. At one point he turned down jobs to work for the Sears company in Chicago, Illinois as well as Albertsons in Dallas, Texas, and instead chose to return home to St. George where he worked alongside his father and sister Sheron in the family grocery business, which went by several names over the years: O.P. Skaggs, Skaggs IGA, and Snow's Ranch Market. The store building is still on St. George Boulevard. In 1976 they expanded and built the Gibson's Discount Center. He was always on the go, working 100-hour weeks and taking stairs two steps at a time. He was an honorable employer who cared for his employees. As a businessman, his motto was "The customer is always king," and he loved serving his community. Ultimately, the store was sold to Harmons in April 1984. For forty years–since his early childhood when he worked for his dad– Brent had been a grocer.

In June 1984, he made a monumental career change. He returned to the University of Utah to complete a teaching certificate program in just three months, taking twenty-seven credits in the summer quarter. That fall he was hired and started working as an associate professor at Dixie College. He taught for twenty-one years in marketing and management, advised the DECA club, and served as the business department chair. He was influential and beloved and was honored with the Teacher of the Year award.

He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a stake missionary, elders quorum president, ward and stake clerk, and bishop. He served two missions with D'On in Auckland, New Zealand and Arcadia, California.

Brent's priority was always his family, and he had an enduring love for his wife. He loved pheasant hunting with his boys and camping with his grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling, and he especially enjoyed watching sports.

While Brent succeeded at many things in life, he lived for something greater than success. As one of his granddaughters put it when asked what she thought of when she thought of Grandpa, she said, "Through his words and actions I always knew that my grandpa loved me, whether it was slipping me a $20, giving me a big kiss, calling us nicknames (Gretchen, Rat Tail, Sister Sue), holding my hand, attending my games and concerts, and so much more." His greatest joy was to support his children and grandchildren.

Though he taught marketing, he was ultimately impervious to the material things in life. Giving generously brought him far greater joy. He was kind and cheerful, and his quick-wittedness radiated a profound positivity, even joking with his doctors and nurses in his final days. He was known for an array of one-liners to fit any occasion.

He is survived by his wife D'On, his five children Scott (Kathy), Derek (Jaci), Kendrik (Jennae), Brendan (Kari), Keeley (Russ), his sister Sheron Hafen (Richard), and many beloved Andrus sisters- and brothers-in-law. He has thirty-three grandchildren and fifty-three great-grandchildren.
