Obituary

After a short 4 month separation, on March 13, 2012, Carma Lee Lang left this mortal existence to join her beloved George to start their new adventure on the other side. Carma was born October 6, 1930, in Panguitch, Utah, the older of two daughters born to Ben and Hazel Lee. She was raised in Hurricane, Utah, and proud to be an alumni from Hurricane High School and SUU. She married George Perry Lang on October 6, 1949 in the St. George LDS Temple. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister Nancy. After having 4 rambunctious boys, Carma decided to wait until her sons married to get her charming, beautiful daughters. When all the boys started school, Carma also went back and got her degree in Elementary Education and for the next 29 years taught school at West Elementary. Carma touched hundreds of lives encouraging them with her many talents and love for Science, Math and the Arts. She started the West Elementary science fair where 1st place became the The Carma Lang Science Award . She also directed the first West Elementary Shakespearean Festival. Carma had an adventurous spirit. She loved the time when she and George spent her summers out of school riding the open road on their Gold Wing motorcycle. After retirement, they traded their motorcycle for an RV and spent several years going wherever the wind took them making new friends whenever they stopped. For most of her adult life, Carma belonged to the Pal-ettes consisting of lifelong friends. They met every month for over 50 years continuing still today. She also belonged to Buenas Amigas Club getting involved in many activities in the Hurricane area. Carma was an active member of the LDS Church holding several callings including Stake Drama Director, Relief Society President and Young Women President. She loved the young women as they were her temporary daughters especially enjoying girls camp. She and George served a mission for the LDS Church at the Employment Center and then continued their service in the St. George LDS Temple. Carmas greatest love after George was her family. She was delighted as each grandchild and then great grandchild was born. If Carma was in the room, no one else got to hold the new little bundles. Carma is survived by her 4 sons: Ben (Janet) of Washington, Doug (Poiette) of Orem, Steve (Barbara) of Washington, and Curtis (Teri) of Las Vegas, her 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. The family would like to express thanks and appreciation to Zions Way Hospice for their love and care of their mom and grandma, especially Shannon and Glessy. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 17th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hurricane LDS 6th Ward Chapel, 622 South 700 West, Hurricane, Utah. Visitations will be held on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, UT and on Saturday, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the Chapel.
