Obituary

Parowan, Utah – Carol V. Decker Carter, 97 years young, passed away peacefully February 4, 2023, surrounded by her family. Carol was born December 24, 1925, in Parowan, Utah to Joseph Victor and Vera Wood Decker.

Carol met Ellis George Carter at a wedding for her brother and his sister. Ellis and Carol would write to each other while he was in the services. They dated each other when he was on leave. When Carol graduated from high school, she married Ellis on October 26, 1944, after he came home on leave. Carol was raised in Parowan and lived there most of her life. She also lived in Glen Canyon City, Utah. Carol and their girls spent their summers following Ellis wherever he was working. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On July 10, 1965, she was sealed to her sweetheart in the St. George Temple.

After graduating from the Nursing program at the U of U, she worked as a nurse at the Old Cedar City Hospital. She worked for many years up until her retirement at the Iron County Rest Home in Parowan.

She found enjoyment in traveling and seeing new places. Ellis and Carol loved to go to the West hills searching for arrowheads and gathering pine-nuts. In their early years of marriage, they would trap and catch wild horses for Ellis to tame and sell. Carol was a master crocheter, knitter, and quilt-maker. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her later years she would stay with her daughters in Parowan, Cedar City, and St. George. Carol is now reunited with her sweetheart, Ellis. She is survived by her children: Pamela Carter Horton (John), St. George, Carolynn Carter Davis (Allen "pup"), Cedar City, and Jaclyn Carter Jacobs (Larry), Parowan; grandchildren: Stefanie Turek, Camille Horton, Tiffanie Sanders, Charisse LaValley, Scott Heaton, Thomas Jacobs, Cody Jacobs; 19 great-grandchildren; and 17 great great-grandchildren; and sister, June Decker Parkinson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis George Carter; grandson, Shawn Michael Heaton; three brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Parowan 2 nd Ward Chapel, 59 South 100 West, Parowan, Utah. A visitation will be held Saturday, prior to services, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Parowan City Cemetery.
