IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carol Scoffield
Peterson
October 29, 1929 – June 9, 2023
Ivins, Utah - Carol Scoffield Peterson passed away on June 9, 2023, in Ivins, Utah. She was born to Syvil James Scoffield (deceased) and Louisa Thurgood (deceased) on October 29, 1929, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Carol had 4 loving siblings – Lou Jean Scoffield Packer (Leon) (deceased); James Carter Scoffield (Karen) (deceased); Rosa Lee Scoffield Sill (Noel); and William Thurgood Scoffield (Cherie). Carol married her high school sweetheart Richard Benjamin Peterson on June 1, 1951, in Ogden, Utah. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 26, 1994. Three precious children were born to them - David Richard Peterson (Kathy); Nancy Carol Peterson Madsen (Ron); and Barbara Jean Peterson Jones (Larry).
Carol graduated from Ogden High School, Weber Junior College, and attended BYU and the University of Utah. She never lost her ardent desire to learn new things. Richard served in the US Air Force and was stationed in France, where Carol joined him. They spent many wonderful days traveling around Europe. They returned home to Ogden, Utah where Carol worked in various positions for the telephone company.
Carol retired from AT&T in March 1986 as a Business Office Manager. Dick and Carol traveled in their motor home all over the west. Carol finally had time to garden, swim, play bridge, grow orchids, create doll houses, and read dozens and dozens of books. Richard retired in 1994. Two years later, they moved to Ivins, Utah to be close to family and to spend their winters in the sun. They made many wonderful friends in their Ivins community. Sadly, Richard passed away on December 7, 2005. Carol has spent her last few years happily involved with Family Search indexing, and keeping abreast of her greatest joys, her 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Friday June 23, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the Ivins City Cemetery, 400 North 200 West, Ivins, Utah.
