Obituary

St. George, Utah Carolyn Quinney Valentine, passed away peacefully, on August 28, 2018 at 1:00 pm, a few weeks after her 84th birthday. She was surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren as she passed.

Carolyn will be missed by her extended family and the many friends she made throughout her lifetime. Carolyn was born on July 7, 1934 in Logan, Utah to Ed and Maxine Quinney. She grew up in Tremonton, Utah, and was the oldest of four children. She is survived by her two siblings, Steven Quinney and Pete Quinney. Her youngest brother, Paul, preceded her in death and will be waiting with her parents to meet her.

Carolyn attended Utah State University where she met, and later married, Jarold Valentine of Brigham City, Utah, on October 28, 1954. Together they had two children: Richard Valentine of Centennial Colorado and Cathyann Valentine of Morrison Colorado. The family moved several times with Jerry's job, but, eventually settled in Littleton, Colorado. Rick and Jill Valentine blessed her life with five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren: Craig and Cynthia Valentine (Michelle, Lincoln, Kian, Anikka), Melissa and Clark Barrett (Eliza and Elena), Mark and Jenny Valentine (Dillon), Todd Valentine, and David and Samantha Valentine.

Growing up, Carolyn danced, worked on a ranch, and played many sports. She continued to play on a softball team and bowling team into her 40's. She played golf with her family and friends throughout her life. She enjoyed being a hostess and opening her house to others. She loved to play bridge. Carolyn also enjoyed needlecrafts, knitting, sewing, reading, and completing jigsaw puzzles.

Carolyn was devoted to her friends and family. Throughout her life, she gave of herself to others with a constant smile and a kind word. Carolyn was truly loved and adored by those who knew her. Once you were her friend, you became part of her family.   During her life, Carolyn worked in careers that focused on making others dreams come true.

Carolyn lived a life of selfless service giving back to her community. When she and Jerry settled in the Littleton area, she helped make the new neighborhood a better place to live. Together, they and another young couple started the little league sports program for the neighborhood. Jerry coached the teams and Carolyn stocked and ran the snack bar. She also volunteered to be the Cub Scout leader and a Girl Scout leader for her children and coached a young women's basketball team. She often helped the local schools through PTA and political actions.

After several years in Colorado, Carolyn and Jerry retired to St. George. They continued their passion of playing golf. Carolyn joined the lady's golf auxiliary group and helped organize and prepare its monthly festivities. She continued to play bridge with the friends she made through golf.
