Obituary

St. George, Utah - Charles Albert Hopkins passed away at his St. George home on September 6, 2013, attended by loving family members. He was born October 8, 1936, in Salina, Utah, the son of Deward and Anna Lou Hopkins. He attended Stewart Elementary School, East High School and the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Charles was married to Joyce Pugmire (later divorced) and Jean Keith (who preceded him in death). On July 2, 1994, he married Nancy G. Fenn Storey Carline in Salt Lake City.

Charles is survived by wife Nancy, son; Jeffrey (wife Laura); brother, Kendall (wife Kitty); sister, Jenniece Schilling; nieces, Jennie Archibald and Christy Schilling; nephew, David Hopkins; and grandnieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife, Jean and sons, Richard and Michael.

He worked in the Commercial Paint Business in Salt Lake City and served with the Utah National Guard. He then went to work for Firestone Tire in Salt Lake and Nampa, Idaho. Accepting a position with a large oil company in Seattle, Washington, he moved to the Northwest where he made many life long friends. They said they met Charles through business, and those working relationships turned into beautiful friendships. During this time, Charles and Nancy lived in Portland, Oregon, while he worked for the Valvoline Oil Company.

Upon retirement from The Ashland Oil Company, the couple moved to St. George where they were members of the Bloomington Country Club. He was a Patron of the Dixie Regional Medical Center and a loving benefactor to his great nieces and nephews.

Diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, his health rapidly declined, yet he maintained a positive attitude to the end.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Doctors Chamberlain, Bromberg and Saifee. Deep gratitude is also conveyed to Nurses Jennifer and Pauline and Aide Chad of Dixie Hospice Care. The Family appreciates the caring and support of their many Friends.

At Charles' request, there will not be a viewing or services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation can be made to the ALS Association, 27001 Agoura Road, Calabasas Hills, CA 91301. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
