Charlotte Ann Perkins Murdock, 76, passed away January 3, 2016, after a valiant 16-year battle with pulmonary fibrosis and more recently a pulmonary embolism and pneumonia. She was born in Cedar City, UT, on April 16, 1939, the fourth of five children to Ralph C. and Fern Ruby Perkins.
Charlotte attended Cedar City High School and later Weber State College, an example to her posterity of the importance of lifelong education and learning. On June 8, 1957, Charlotte married her high school sweetheart, S. Reed Murdock, in the LDS St. George Temple. She supported her husband through years of schooling, after which the family settled in Layton, UT from 1968 through 2011, where they raised their five children.
She worked in the Davis County school system where she retired as a secretary. She served in various church callings from ward chorister to auxiliary presidencies beginning from the age of 16 until the day she passed, including supporting her husband through many years of his callings.
Charlotte was loving and compassionate and regularly wrote to a wide circle of friends and families. Particular beneficiaries of her hand-written letters were her numerous missionary grandchildren of whom she was proud. She was loved by her family and friends who will all miss her sense of humor, beautiful smile and cheerful acceptance of whatever life brought her way. She loved nature, beautiful sunsets and traveling the world with Reed to visit her children and grandkids. She enjoyed music and at one time had as many as 25 piano students. She is known for giving countless gifts to others, often made through her own handiwork; a true labor of love.
Charlotte's illness resulted in needing supplemental oxygen for over 16 years, 24 hours a day. She will be remembered for her positivity when dealing with sickness and heartache, never complaining due to her deep faith in the Savior and her steadfast conviction that "I'll be all right." She is a true example of Christ-like qualities of hope, charity, forgiveness and respect.
Charlotte is survived by her husband of 58 years, her children: Gordon Reed (Terumi), Jeanette Mahaffey (Shannon), Russell Perkins (Krystin), Suzanne Wray (Joe) and Ralph Carlos (Lisa), foster daughter; Lolita Spencer, 26 grandchildren, 10 great - grandchildren; sisters: Colleen Neeley and LaRue Rosenberg and numerous beloved nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Kenneth and Dale, grandson; Mitch Murdock, and her dear niece; Linda Shriber.
Her family wishes to thank the countless nurses, CNAs and housekeepers at Dixie Regional Medical Center who provided her with loving and compassionate care in several stays over the past few years, too many to name separately. Particular thanks to Doctors Alexander and Flanders in Layton who supported her early on and Doctors Ferguson, Goodger and Gardner who were especially attentive in her last years, especially Dr. Ferguson who was at her side when she passed.
A visitation will be held on January 16, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., with funeral services after at 11:00 a.m., in the Bloomington LDS Stake Center located at 200 W. Brigham Road, St. George, UT.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the Mountain View Cemetery located at 650 East 600 North, Beaver, UT. Charlotte loved flowers, however, due to inclement weather, the family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made in her name to the Dixie Regional Medical Center Foundation to further the compassionate care to others that was given to her.
