Obituary

St. George, Utah - Clara Williams Woodfield, 87, passed away peacefully at her home November 22, 2012. She was born in Ferron, Utah, June 28, 1925, the daughter of Fenton Lyle and Gwendolyn Killpack Williams. She married Floyd J. Woodfield on August 20, 1951 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah. They were always together. Every morning they each did the crossword puzzle, and every evening they played a very competitive game of Scrabble.

Clara spent her childhood in Utah, living in the following towns: Ferron, Provo, Roosevelt and Delta. When she was twelve years old she moved to Sacramento, California. In Sacramento she attended Sutter Junior High School, Hagginwood School, Kit Carson Junior High School, Sacramento High School and Sacramento Junior College. She attended Brigham Young University and received her Bachelors Degree in 1948, majoring in nutrition.

Clara was called as a missionary to the Eastern States Mission, serving in Pennsylvania and New York. She played the part of an Indian maiden in The Hill Cumorah Pageant in Palmyra, New York, twice.

Clara loved The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and tried to live as a disciple of Jesus Christ. She held the following positions in the Church: in Sacramento, California, Stake Gleaner President, Stake Missionary, Stake Sunday School Board, and President of the Ward YWMIA; in Fresno, California, President of the Stake YWMIA and Relief Society Counselor; in South Ogden, President of the Ward YWMIA; in North Ogden, three times, counselor in the Ward Relief Society presidency and in the German Extraction program for 12 years. She worked as an Ordinance Worker in the St. George LDS Temple for six years. Clara was a master teacher and a super speaker.

Clara lived a very active and varied life. During her early years in Sacramento she worked part-time at the following stores: Woolworths, Delands Candy Store, California State Life Insurance Company and Weinstock-Lubin Department Store. She worked full-time in the Air Technical Service Command at McClellan Field in the department called "Blue Streak." Later during her married life, Clara worked as a full-time wife and mother. She and her family traveled widely and went to exotic places. She earned kudos from her husband and family as a homemaker, a seamstress, a gardener and especially as a good cook. She loves animals, especially dogs and flowers, especially roses. Her home in St. George, Utah is a thing of beauty.

Clara and her husband, Floyd, worked together, always as a team. They worked in the Family History Program during all their married lives, doing basic research in English parishes and other places and tracing their roots back many generations on their pedigree lines. They did temple ordinances and sealings for hundreds of their ancestors. Together they wrote a book, Floyd as editor and compiler and Clara as associate editor, A History of North Ogden: Beginnings to 1985. They also wrote The Floyd J. and Clara (Williams) Woodfield Family History , a published two volume work containing more than 500 pictures. Clara compiled and wrote a published work about her ancestor, entitled, Stephen Williams and His Descendants, 1816-1978.

Clara is survived by her husband, Floyd, four children: Dale A. (Jeanne B.) Woodfield, Linda W. (Brian G.) Sanford, Kent F. (Jodi A.) Woodfield and Laura W. (John) Graves; eleven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. Clara loved and adored her husband and family, and her husband and family love and adore her.
