Our beloved mother, sister, and friend, Claudia Joan Glover Johnson, 76, of Dammeron Valley, Utah, went home to be with the Lord on April 11, 2012, after a seven month battle with lung cancer. Claudia (known to many as Joan or Joanie) was born on April 28th, 1935, to Elmer R. Glover and Merrille Anna Graff Glover. She was instilled at a young age with a love of nature and the great outdoors and enjoyed many happy days as a child, playing in her family's nursery in Midvale, learning the names of the shrubs and trees that her father loved. She went to Jordan High School and later graduated with a degree in business from Salt Lake Community College. However, it wasn't until she moved South that she found her niche as a hiking guide at Red Mountain Resort & spa in Ivins, Utah. Claudia delighted fellow hikers with her knowledge of the local history and ecology, but it was her compassionate heart, vibrant smile, and quirky sense of humor that endeared her to friends from around the world and kept many guests requesting their favorite guide, Claudia, year after year. Claudia had a special place in her heart for babies. She cherished each of her seven children, seventeen grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren and looked forward to future grandbabies to cuddle and spoil. As an artist, she created beautiful images and spaces - havens for her loved ones. She placed great emphasis on health and wellness, always sharing tips on how to stay young and healthy. It was a great shock and sadness to us all that this beautiful lady, so devoted to living life to the fullest, succumbed to such an unfair disease. It was no surprise that she did so while maintaining her characteristic grace, humor, and charm. Special thanks to the kind CareSource staff who supported that dignity during the final weeks of her life. Claudia is survived by her siblings (Ann, Marian, Robert, Cherie) and kidlets (as she called us): James Jensen (Wendy), Claudia Jensen Allen Kidder (Bill), Ronald Jensen (Cathy), Steve Jensen (Monique), Cody Jensen (Tina), Frank Cox (Jodi), and Callie Christopherson Foulk (Thomas); also Jody Linan (Carlos) & Kent Allen -"children" she would never let go. She will be missed beyond measure, but she left this message for us: "Do not weep for me. Be Happy! I'll be safe in the arms of my Lord and Savior until we meet again." Claudia's memorial service will be held at Metcalf Mortuary on Saturday, April 14, 2012, 11:00 am. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
