IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Connie Jean
Ottesen Christensen
July 24, 1947 – May 18, 2025
Connie Jean Ottesen Christensen, age 77, returned to the arms of her Savior. With hearts full of love and faith, we celebrate the beautiful life of our dear mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Connie Jean Ottesen Christensen, who returned to the loving arms of her Savior on May 18, 2025, at the age of 77. She was a devoted daughter of God, a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and a shining example of Christlike service, love, and endurance.
Born July 24, 1947, to Louise and Hubert Ottesen in Payson, Utah, she was raised in a home built on family loyalty, love and hard work. Her childhood in Payson laid the foundation for a life steeped in compassion and resilience. She spent many later years in Hurricane, Utah, and then most recently North Vernon, Indiana. She loved flowers, sunshine, and spending time with her family. She taught us to serve gladly, to endure with grace, and to always look for beauty and happiness in the small and simple things.
She attended The College of Southern Utah and Brigham Young University. On November 21, 1969, she was sealed for time and all eternity to Richard Hamilton Christensen in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 53 years, and she faithfully spent 22 of those years sacrificing and caring for him after a debilitating accident. She also served faithfully in many church callings throughout her life, including as Relief Society President and Young Women's President, roles in which she touched countless lives with her warmth, kindness, and service.
Connie was a gifted homemaker and creator. She always tried to make her home a beautiful place, even when finances were tight, and worked hard to make it so. One Christmas, when she and Richard couldn't afford gifts, she quietly took the lining from her own winter coat and handmade a teddy bear for her daughter—a lasting symbol of her selfless love. She had a magical way with the earth—her gardens were always vibrant and flourishing, a reflection of the care and love she poured into everything she did. Her two girls were her pride and joy. Using her skill with sewing she made beautiful dresses and outfits for her beloved little girls, creating cherished memories stitched with love. She was a talented quilter and in her later years, she took joy in crocheting, often crafting cozy, colorful blankets that wrapped others in warmth and comfort. To help support her young family, she lovingly made stuffed animals and Raggedy Ann dolls—each one a symbol of her dedication, creativity, and enduring spirit.
She was the cherished mother of Monique Christensen (Danny) of North Vernon, Indiana, and Danielle Crofts (Chanc) of Hurricane, Utah. Her legacy lives on through her beloved grandchildren: Helen, Cody (Mike), Ty (Morgan), Kyle, Matthew (Shandy), Cole, Corbin, Ammon (Addie), Celia, and Kaianne, and great grandchildren Emma, Lana, Sy, Kodiak, and another on the way. She is also survived by her loving brother, Steven (Ranae) Ottesen; sister, Arleen Sink; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents, Louise and Hubert; and sister, Carol (Keith) Ewell.
She truly made the world a better place, not through grand gestures, but through simple acts of kindness. We will miss her dearly, but we rejoice in the knowledge of eternal families and that she is joyfully reunited with those who went before.
We love you, Mom. Until we meet again.
"Well done, thou good and faithful servant…enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." (Matthew 25:21)
