Obituary

St George - Cora Mellor Hudson age 89 died peacefully surrounded by her family on July 15, 2023, due to complications of renal failure.  Cora was born on a snowy day at her family home on December 28, 1933, in Fayette, Utah.  She was the fourth of ten children born to Warren Rex and Rachel Petersen Mellor.

Cora attended Gunnison Valley schools and her yearbook states she was efficient in all her classes and was always busy.  She then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in English.  Cora dedicated her life to education and teaching in the classroom.  She taught school for two years in Bakersfield, CA and then for 36 years in Ogden City schools.  She spent her years teaching kindergarten through fourth grade and always expressed first graders were her favorite age to teach. Cora served on many strategic planning committees and volunteered with educational associations to ensure every child received an exceptional public education.

Cora served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Samoan Islands. Cora met William "Bill" Hudson, another Utah missionary while serving in Western Samoa.  They were married on August 19, 1960, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  Their marriage ended in 1981 and then Bill later died of renal cancer in 2012.  Cora was blessed with four children whom she cherished: Alan William, Janet, Carol, and Linda.  Janet died in infancy due to respiratory failure.

Cora served in many church callings, with the Ogden Family Search Center, and as a dedicated Ogden Temple ordinance worker for 14 years.  She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and loved her friendships with the ladies in her camp and being a docent at the museum.  Serving others brought her great peace and comfort and the ability to share her continued gospel knowledge.

Following her mission, Cora traveled around the world through the South Pacific, Europe, Canada, and the United States. She loved to travel to exotic destinations with her children, go on Caribbean and Mexican Rivera cruises, attend sporting events, and read health and religious books in the sunshine.  She was an ecstatic Utah Jazz basketball and BYU football fan and never missed a broadcast game.  When Cora was younger, she loved to garden, roller skate, ride her bicycle, snow ski at Ogden Valley resorts, go boating and slalom water ski, and power walk the Ogden River Parkway.

Cora is survived by her children and their spouses: Alan (Debra) Hudson, Carol (Jon) Hodson, and Linda (James) Dix.  She has six amazing grandchildren whom she loved dearly: David (Steffi) Eckstein, Kylee (Jordan) Holt, Zackary Hudson, Jordan (Natashia) Nelson, Krystal (Mitch) Neuenschwander, and Kason Dix.

Cora spent many hours teaching her grandchildren scholastic subjects, cheering them on in sporting events, and helped them develop their talents while babysitting.  She also has seven adorable great grandchildren who kept her smiling.

Cora was mentally strong, a tough lady who never gave up, and a spiritual role model to her family and close friends.  She suffered multiple medical challenges in her retirement years of having open heart bypass surgery, breast cancer, and end stage renal disease requiring weekly hemodialysis. She always said, "I'm A-OK" for she was determined to spend more time on this earth to watch over her family.  Most recently, Cora had been residing in St. George with her daughter.  A special thank you to Carol and Jon for providing angelic care to our Grammy during the last eight years of her life.  Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend will be greatly missed by her family and those she loved.

Interment will be in the Ogden City Cemetery.
