Obituary

Ivins, Utah - On March 16, 2015, Corrine Jolley Applegate, 87, peacefully passed away to be reunited with her eternal sweetheart. She was born June 20, 1927 in Richfield, Utah to Masiel and Mary Whitehead Jolley. She grew up on the family farm in Angle, Utah in a family of 11 children who all worked to make the farm a self-reliant wonder. She attended school in Circleville, Utah and graduated Valedictorian of Piute High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Don J. Applegate on January 31, 1945 in the St. George LDS Temple. Having lived in Utah and Idaho, they raised ten children, five boys and five girls. Corrine loved life and maintained a positive, happy attitude as she nurtured and taught her family. The family was always central to her priorities, and she instilled in each of her children a love for reading and developing their talents. Family nights and gatherings would find the family gathered around the piano singing while one of the daughters played the piano or sons played the guitar. She was a talented homemaker, a master chef, a seamstress, a gardener, and a woman of great faith. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many Stake and Ward callings serving in Primary, Cub Scouts, Young Women, and Relief Society. She rarely missed an opportunity to sing as an alto in her church choir. She served a mission for the Church History Department in Salt Lake City from Oct. 2008 April 2010, an experience that filled her with joy. Most recently, she loved serving as a member of the DUP and cherished her association with those she served with. Corrine was a successful business woman and excelled in many sales ventures such as Avon, Fashion Two Twenty, and World Book Childcraft. She was awarded the North American Outstanding Sales Manager in 1991 for World Book. She didn't believe she was ever selling anything, rather, sharing to make life better by serving individuals and families. She is survived by four sons: Steven (Pauline), Chris, Don Jay (Diana), and Derek; three daughters: Evalee (Raymon) Matheson, Mary Ann (Hal) Baird, and Corrine (John) Spencer; 43 grandchildren, and a multitude of great and great, great grandchildren and counting; two brothers: George (Bernice) and Ted Jolley; seven sisters: Patti (LaMaun) Sorensen, Renee (Phil) Petersen, Jilleen Anderson, Mona (Devon) Anderson, Eva (Ralph) Bassett, Shirley (John) VanAusdal, Tamara (Steven) Kimball. She is preceded in death by her husband; son, David Applegate; two daughters: Mickie Evans and Karrie Lyn Vance; son-in-law, Robert Vance; daughter-in-law, Pamela Applegate; grandson, Eric Matheson; and brother, Kay Jolley. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Heritage LDS Chapel, 240 East 1060 South, Ivins, Utah. Visitations will be held Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah and Saturday, prior to services, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Chapel.
