Obituary

Coral Canyon - Craig Woods Davis, 79, passed away peacefully in his home in Coral Canyon (Washington), Utah on the evening of July 28, 2021.

He married Robyn Davis in Florence, Italy on April 29, 1995, and they enjoyed 26 happy years together on bikes, pickle ball courts, golf courses and at their home in St. George.

He was born November 16, 1941, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Elmer David Davis and Charlene Woods Davis. He attended East High School and was the third generation in his family to serve an LDS Mission in Auckland, New Zealand.

He was graduated with honors from the University of Utah and the University of Utah Medical School in 1969. He completed two years at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, and two years of surgical residency at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He then completed a plastic surgery residency in Utah before successfully practicing as a surgeon for more than 30 years. He retired on his 65 th birthday and never looked back.

He married Peggy Fotheringham in the Salt Lake Temple on June 14, 1968. They later divorced. They are the parents of four children: Matthew Craig Davis (Sue), Michelle Davis Wolfenbarger (Todd), Mark Fotheringham Davis (Bethany) and Monique Davis Janke (Jaren). He was also stepfather to Ashley, Tyler, Abbie and Peter and the grandfather of 18 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Roger Davis. He is survived by his wife, children, and siblings: Denise Davis and Dan Davis.

Craig was a natural explorer, curious about life and a pursuer of a wide array of interests. His energy was unbridled -- from six in the morning until "the rack called" in the evening. From the time he was a boy, he had a passion for science and a love for animals that he carried throughout his life. He became an expert gardener creating spectacular landscapes that included a magnificent yard two of his children chose for their wedding reception because other venues could not rival his work. He loved sculpting and painting and successfully sold paintings after he retired from medicine. He even contributed columns to local newspapers later in his life.

He was a fierce competitor – as anyone who ever played anything with him can attest! At various points he was a skilled tennis player, cyclist, golfer and pickleball player. He participated in the Huntsman World Senior Games for 25+ years winning medals in road biking, mountain biking, tennis, golf and pickleball. He won the national bronze medal for his age group in pickleball in 2019. He completed 200+ mile Logan to Jackson (LOTOJA) bike race, shot his age in golf numerous times and had six holes in one.

He was a man who ventured through many circles and made friends and changed lives along the way. Loved by his patients and respected by his colleagues throughout the United States, he voluntarily served three medical missions with Operation Smile in the Philippines, performing surgeries on dozens of children and adults who had been born with cleft palates and other abnormalities. He served for five years as a Bishop in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Craig lived his dreams and was accomplished in life. His family will remember the simple things about him. His art. His collection of walking sticks and skulls. His belly laughs at a good joke and his love for the Runnin' Utes. He was loved deeply, and many look forward to seeing him again, full of energy, full of life and full of curiosity.

Because Craig was the proud 8-year survivor of pancreatic cancer, please make donations to Huntsman Cancer Institute in lieu of flowers.

A celebration of life will be held in Craig's honor in the fall.
