Obituary

Craig Carson DeHart of Montezuma Canyon, Monticello, Utah, passed away May 27, 2013, at age 70, due to health complications.

Craig was born April 30, 1943, in Provo, Utah to Louis Kershaw and Virginia McNamara DeHart. He married Jeanie Ilene Lamb, August 22, 1966, in the Salt Lake Temple. They have been married over 47 years and raised 11 children.

Craigs influence spans his time in Payson, Enterprise, and the last 8 years in Monticello and Monument Valley, Utah. Craig was raised on a farm in West Mountain in Payson, Utah. He attended Brigham Young University and subsequently graduated from the University of Oregon, School of Dentistry in Portland. Affectionately known as "Doc DeHart," he practiced dentistry for over 40 years. Before his retirement last year, he spent 12 years as a dentist in the Monument Valley Clinic serving the Native Americans, whom he loved.

One of his biggest loves was Native American culture and history. He was very talented with his hands and created pottery with authentic designs. Other hobbies include hunting, fishing, gardening, farming, raising animals, Dutch-oven cooking, artisan bread-making, and many other crafts and skills. He was a great story teller and excelled in "big fish" stories.

Craig was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his lifetime. At age 19, he served a mission to the Netherlands. He served in various positions in Church, including 38 years as a youth leader in the Young Mens program and Boy Scouts of America.

Craig was preceded in death by both of his parents, and his sister, Cathie Young (Dave). He is survived by his siblings: Guy K. DeHart (Vonnie), Dennis DeHart (Shirley), Brian DeHart (Dawn), Lani West (Joseph), Hali Stewart (Lee), and Hugh DeHart (Sheryl). He is also survived by his wife, and 11 children, Shane, Julaine Root (Max), Amy Millet (Daniel), Jared (Shannon), Ginger Harris (Rob), Heath (Monica), Annaleigh Worthen (Anthony), Erika Finlinson (Brandon), Abbie Clark (Richard), Ashleigh Turner (Larry) and Chantel DeHart; and 41 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ridge View Chapel, 750 North 1000 West, St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd. and on Saturday, prior to services, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Chapel. Interment will follow at Tonaquint Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
