St. George, Utah - Dale Harold Brown, 87, passed away on November 13, 2014. He was born on October 1, 1927 to Harold and Katherine Malin Brown in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Lois Garnet and Katherine Beattie. His accolades include: the University of Utah from 1944 - 1945; the Navy in 1946 as Hospital Apprentice Second Class at the US Naval Hospital in Astoria, OR assisting doctors in the operating room; Guam in 1947 - 1949 at the Fleet Dental clinic in Agana assisting dentists and discharged as Hospital Apprentice First Class; the University of Utah from 1949 - 1950; Dental Prosthetics School at UCLA Ext Div in 1950; Standard Brands Paint Co. in Long Beach, CA. He had a 34 year career as a residential mailman in Long Beach and walked nine miles a day, five and sometimes six days a week. He knew each patron's family members and pets and they could set their watches by him. His supervisors received nice letters from his patrons. As of last Christmas, he could still remember many of their street addresses. They remembered him each Christmas and upon his retirement on Halloween 1990. He had an impeccable driving record and was the Driver of the Year in 1988. Dale enjoyed collecting stamps, Star Wars and Disney items, comic books and was a partner in a bookstore in Hawaiian Gardens, CA with Palle (Joanne) Jensen in the 1970's. He fell in love with Frances "Pat" Beattie years later after the marriage of his sister Kay to Pat's brother, John Beattie. Pat played the trombone occasionally in clubs in Los Angeles and toured with the USO for a few months on the east coast visiting wounded servicemen. She was living in an apartment in Long Beach when they again met. They wed months later in Las Vegas in 1949 and their daughter, Lois was born in 1953 in Ogden, Utah. They moved to Long Beach, CA in 1955. The couple retired in St. George in 1991. Pat preceeded him in death at the age of 91 on November 25, 2009 while in hospice; their 60th wedding anniversary was days earlier on November 23rd. Their daughter and only child, Lois Miller (Park) of Las Vegas, survives to cherish the memories of her beloved parents and best friends. They loved the holidays, especially Halloween and Christmas, Zoos and Disneyland where the 4 of them last enjoyed in 2001, but mostly spending quality time together. At Dale's request, no services will be held and he has graciously donated his body to the University of Utah Science Program. Arrangements are under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary, 435-673-4221.
