IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dan Chester
Miller
September 11, 1955 – January 16, 2025
Santa Clara, Utah – Dan Chester Miller, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025, in Santa Clara, Utah, at the age of 69. He was born on September 11, 1955, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Glen and Vivian Seibold Miller.
Dan was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in the Washington D.C. Mission from 1980-1982, where he developed a deep and abiding testimony of the gospel. He was sealed to his eternal companion, Ruth Ellen Miller, in the Salt Lake Temple on January 9, 1984. Together, they raised a beautiful family and created a home filled with love, laughter, and faith.
Dan was a dedicated husband and father. He cherished his wife, Ruth, and their love story was one of patience, persistence, and "just one more date." He was a loving father to Danny, Holly VanGilder, April Hansen (Matt), Stephen, Mark (Shannah), Timothy (Anne), and Adam. He was preceded in death by his son, Danny, who passed away in 1985. He adored his grandchildren: Kalyssa, Haley, Ali, Greyson, Emerson, Lincoln, Jovi, Oaks, and Scottie. He delighted in spending time with them, and was often found playing on the floor, sharing stories, and teaching them the art of the perfect ice cream cone.
Dan was never afraid of hard work and dedicated much of his life to the family flower business, Milgro. He had a true love of flowers and found joy in nurturing their growth. He instilled his strong work ethic in his children, often bringing them to the nursery to share in the family business.
Throughout his life, Dan was an active member of the Church. He served faithfully in many callings, including in the Primary, Young Men's, and as Bishop, with his favorite being in the Primary. He was a man of deep faith and found strength and guidance through prayer and personal revelation. He often recorded spiritual experiences and dreams in his journal, which served as a source of inspiration throughout his life.
Dan's life was marked by resilience. At the age of six, he suffered severe burns, spending over 120 days in the hospital. This experience shaped his perspective and strengthened his faith. He was a man who looked for the good in others, often leaving himself handwritten notes with this reminder throughout the house.
Even as his health declined in his later years, Dan found comfort in the scriptures and hymns. He and Ruth would often sing together, his memory for the words never fading.
Dan was the last surviving sibling of a large and loving family. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Glendala, Cynthia, Glen, Gary, Ted, Susan, and Barry. We rejoice in the knowledge that he is now reunited with them and his son, Danny.
