IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Darlene Claudette
Wheat
September 26, 1929 – November 20, 2022
Darlene Claudette Wheat was born to Arthur and Gladys Mitchell on September 26, 1929, in Los Angeles, California. She was an only child but was surrounded by loving family and great friends. Her family moved often, so she attended several schools in L.A. making friends everywhere they lived, and that is what she did all her life.
On October 7, 1949, she married Lester Henry at Huntington Park, California. They soon had 5 little children who survived her, (and miss her very much.) They are: Holly (Steve) Brilles, Shelly (Mark) Gurney, Eric (Sheri) Henry, Lesa (Don) Saltzman and Lynel (Mike) Warnick.
Darlene worked as a secretary at Norwalk High School in Norwalk, California where they raised their children. Trips to the beach and camping were the favorite activities for the family, always with some great friends along for the fun.
Darlene joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on May 1954, and said, "I will never look back." She devoted her life to serving others and to her callings in the church and community. She served multiple times as the Relief Society president, and in Young Women' presidencies. She was blessed with a happy and positive outlook on life. Around 1970, she moved to Santa Cruz, California where she worked as a secretary at Cabrillo College. On June 7, 1973, she married Chuck Wheat who had six children: Paul and Gary Cotting, Gail Cotting Salgado, Nancy (Gary) Scardone, Maralynn Wheat and Marabeth (Tom) Lewis.
They moved to a home in Scotts Valley, California, which became the main gathering place for church, family and friends. She was a great cook, and always had their home decorated to the max for any holiday. When they retired, they moved first to Meridian, Idaho and then to St George, Utah where she continued to "love, serve, and entertain" to the end
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, 2583 East 350 North, St George Utah. A viewing will be held prior to services from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the church. Interment will be in the Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 South Dixie Drive, St. George, Utah.
