IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Darrel Clare
Hansen
July 26, 1941 – March 31, 2025
St. George, Utah - Darrel Clare Hansen, 83, passed away at his home March 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 26, 1941, in St. George, Utah to Clare Fenwell Hansen and Rose Petersen Hansen. He married his eternal companion Gayle Bundy Hansen in the St. George Temple on October 16, 1965. That union resulted in seven children, two daughters and five sons. After Gayle passed away July 18, 2016. Darrel married a childhood friend Evelyn Bosh June 10, 2017, gaining four more children.
Darrel grew up on the north end of St. George (aka Sandtown) where his backyard consisted of wide-open spaces, with the sand and rocks of the red hill. Darrel enjoyed drag racing, working on engines and making things run. At an early age he learned the value of hard work. As the oldest of 9 children, at the age of 14 he made the decision to quit school and start working to help his parents support the family.
He worked for his dad, driving trucks to Carbon County to haul coal back to St George to sell. He then went to work at Worthen Buick (which later became Peterson Buick then Newby Buick) in the parts department. He worked his way up to mechanic where he worked for over 50 years.
Darrel was a member of the Bloomington Utah Fire Department from November 1979 to July 1983 when Bloomington was annexed into St George. He continued his service as a devoted firefighter with the St George Fire Department, until his retirement in 2022 after 43 years of service.
He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he diligently served in every calling he was given. His most favorite though was the "unofficial" calling of being in charge of the Bloomington 3rd ward annual Dutch oven dinner in Pine Valley for over 25 years.
Darrel cherished time with his family, especially taking what he called a "short ride" with his wife, children and grandchildren. His family quickly learned to bring snacks, as those rides often lasted much longer than expected.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; his children: D'Launa (Evan) Christensen, Keven (Tiffany) Hansen, David (Guita Tabassi) Hansen, Kirby (Kandice) Hansen, Jeff (Trisa) Hansen, Casey (Deana) Hansen and Kami (Ron Rife) Thomas; as well as 22 grandchildren and 21 great grand-children with three more on the way; Evelyn's children: Steven Bosh, K'Lyne Gentry, Larry (Julie) Bosh and JeriAnn Mathias; and Evelyn's many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Irene Lister, Larry (Madelon) Hansen, Robert (Palma) Hansen, Charlie (Lolene) Hansen and Danny (Rocinda) Hansen.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gayle; his parents, Clare and Rose Hansen; and his siblings: Gene Hansen, Mary Brenay and Julie Brown.
