Child
May 3, 1937 – December 18, 2024
Washington, Utah – It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Darrell Lee Child, a cherished son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, on December 18, 2024, at the age of 87.
Darrell was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on May 3, 1937, to Elman Taylor Child and Ruth Elizabeth Bates Child. He was the baby of 8 children. He told many fun stories about growing up on the family farm with his siblings who lovingly called him Pee-Wee.
Darrell married his sweetheart Charlene Grace Stahl on October 12, 1957. Together they enjoyed 67 years of fun and adventures including camping, hiking, snowmobiling, boating, four wheeling, hunting, fishing, and traveling. He was an avid reader. He loved watching sports and old westerns with his cherished dogs, Buttons, Sammy, and Cash.
Darrell was a loving and devoted husband and father, as well as a wonderful example of integrity and hard work. He was a skilled carpenter and craftsman by trade. He took great pride in his extensive collection of tools and loved repairing, fixing, remodeling, or building anything. He built his dream home and a duplex from the ground up.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene; and their children: Michael Lee Child (Monica), James Edward Child (Jamie), Peggy Sue Carpenter (Troy), and Cathy O'Ann Bushnell (Keith). He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will live on through his 22 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Elman Taylor Child and Ruth Elizabeth Bates and all his siblings: Theresa (Tess), Elman Lawrence, Ruth Afton, Donna Gene, Grant Bates, Clyde Rawson, and Beverly Ann.
Dad, we love you. You will be greatly missed!
