St. George, UT - Our kind and loving husband, father, grand father and great grand father, Dee Rawson passed away November 13, 2009, in Saint George, Utah He was born Oct. 29, 1929 in Ogden, Utah. to James and Margaret Rawson and was raised on a dairy farm in Kanesville, Utah. Dee graduated from Weber High School where he was first chair trumpet in the band and played at the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, California. He also sang with The Dorian Singers and had a lead part in the opera where he sang Indian Love Call . He received a scholarship to Weber College and earned his Bachelors Degree in Education and did post graduate work at Utah State University, where he obtained his Masters Degree. He also sang with the Calvacade Chorus and toured with a Sextet musical group. He married Carolyn Hatch in the Logan LDS Temple on June, 19, 1953. They celebrated their 56th anniversary in June. Dee taught in Utah for eight years before he came to Shelley as Elementary Principal of Goodsell, Taylor and Jameston schools. He was President of the 6th District Principals Association, the Idaho NEA Representative of Elementary Principals of America, for 6 years and was selected as an Outstanding Educator in America , 1973-74. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints and has held many ward & stake leadership positions. Dee & Carolyn served a mission in Nauvoo 1998-99. For the past nine winters, they have been serving at the Member Location Mission in Saint George, Utah His children are: Brent (Nena) Rawson, Houston, Tx, Deann (Fred) Cooper, Idaho Falls, Id, Nancy (Kevin) Thornton, Fairfield, Ca, Marie (Steve) Kapp, Logan, Ut 16 grandchildren 7 Great Grandchildren. A visitation will be held in Saint George, Sunday, November 15, 2009 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W Saint George Blvd. Funeral services will be held in Shelly, Idaho, Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Shelley LDS Stake Center, 325 E Locust, Shelly, Idaho. Visitations will be held Tuesday, November 17th from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 W Oak St., Shelly, Idaho and on Wednesday from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m., prior to services, at the Stake Center. Interment will be at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Shelley, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the World Missionary Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
