St. George, UT - Derral Lee Leland Nielsen passed away May 9, 2009. He was born October 3, 1929 to Leland and Lillian Nielsen in Provo, Utah. He married Virginia Mickelson on March 17, 1983 in Cedar City, Utah. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer from the Navy in 1969. He worked for the Iron County School District as a bus driver for 15 years where he went on field trips with the football, track and Drill teams from Cedar High School. He retired on June 16, 1992. Derral loved motorcycle trips, bowling, golfing, singing and playing the guitar. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; children: David (Christine) Nielsen of Bakersfield, CA; Brad (Terry) Cottam of St. George, UT; and Scott (Cammey) Cottam of Washington UT; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at the Three Peaks Ward Chapel, 40 East Midvalley Road, Enoch, Utah. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the chapel, prior to services. Arrangements under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary, 435-674-4221.
