Obituary

St. George, Utah - Donald Andrew Ericson, 77, passed away May 5, 2011 in St. George, Utah. Don was born February 2, 1934 in Anoka, Minnesota to Inez M. and Eric F. Ericson. Don attended Gustavus Adolphus College before enlisting in the Marine Corps during the Korean War, eventually receiving an honorable discharge as a Corporal of Marines. After returning from Camp LeJeune, Don briefly attended the University of South Dakota before marrying Roberta Bobbi Haney in their hometown of Anoka. Six weeks after the wedding, Don was transferred to Pittsburgh, PA by 3M Company, where Don and Bobbi raised their family for twenty years. Don was a prominent figure in local community organizations such as the Republican Committee, Lions Club and youth swim teams. In the late 1970s, Don and Bobbi moved to Upland, California where they eventually owned and operated Upland Lighting. In Southern California, Don was again involved in many community activities, including memberships in Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club International, and he served as President of the Boys and Girls Club of the Inland Empire. After selling their business, Don and Bobbi moved to Sun Lakes in California before finally settling in St George at the Sun River Senior Community. Don was the first Post Commander of American Legion Post #142 in Sun River. Don enjoyed playing cards, reading, community activities, politics, and most of all he enjoyed conversations and talking with everyone he met. Don is survived by his wife of 53 years, Bobbi Ericson; son, Jon Ericson of Ardmore, PA; daughter, Kristi Ericson Davis of Cimarron, NM; grandsons, Andrew and Charles Ericson of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; and his beloved dog, Mickey of Sun River. A Memorial Service will be held on June 4, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. at the New Promise Lutheran Church, 244 South Valley View Drive, St George, Utah.
