Obituary

St. George, Utah - Dorothy "Dottie" Lucile Byram Malcomson, 93, beloved mother, passed away peacefully 6 June 2023.

Dottie was born 8 Sep 1929 in Ventura, CA to Walter Byram and Lucile Eves Byram.  She met her future husband, Richard D. Malcomson, when they attended 4th, 5th & 6th grades together at Thomas A. Edison grade school. They reconnected years later and were married on 21 November 1953 in Carmel, CA.  They were married for 52 years until Rick's death 11 Dec 2005.

Dottie was a military spouse, teacher, artist, dancer and singer.  The military took her to Japan, where daughter Bonnie was born; Falls Church, VA, where son Ron joined the family; Baltimore, MD; Berlin, Germany; El Paso, TX; Monterey, CA; Bangkok, Thailand; and Kansas City, MO.  She taught at public and private schools in all those places.  Upon Rick's military retirement in 1970, they moved to Albuquerque, NM, where she became active with Job's Daughters, culminating as Grand Guardian for the State of NM.  She then followed Rick to St. George, UT for his second career as Bureau of Land Management Archaeologist for the Northern Arizona Strip.  She taught at West Elementary and East Elementary until her Retirement in 1992.

She and Rick were active in Eastern Star and the Benevolent Order of the Elks.  Dottie was President of the Ladies of the Elks, 1986-1987.  She was a member of a group of singers and a group of tap dancers and went on several trips with the Art Department at Dixie College until her health intervened.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lucile; her brother, Donald Byram; and her loving husband, Richard Malcomson.  She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie (Scott) Templeton, Manhattan, KS; son, Ronald Malcomson, St. George, UT; sister-in-law, Hannah Byram; nephew, Beto Byram; and niece Nina Byram, all of California.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. in the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, 611 North 2450 East, St. George, Utah.
