Obituary

Dortha Mae Carpenter Hofeldt passed away peacefully on July 11, 2014 at 12:10 PM at Beehive Homes in St. George, UT where she was surrounded by those who loved and cared for her. She was 91 years old and still had a keen mind when she passed over and received her angel wings.

Born August 02, 1922, in Burns, Kansas, she moved to Green River, Wyoming, as a young child where she attended high school and met the love of her life, John W. Hofeldt. They married in 1942 and bought a ranch in Green River, Wyoming. They had six children, 15 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. They lived a blessed 54 years together.

Mom had a love for family and spent her life caring for her children and grandchildren. She lived in Alturas, California, Carlin, Nevada and later returned to Green River, WY with her husband, John living on their ranch raising charolais cattle and appaloosa horses. Mom had a keen mind enjoying reading, listening to politics, and was fascinated with the games of golf and football.

Mom was a proud icon Rosie the Riviter during WW II in Seattle, Washington working for Boeing while dad was at war. She was a woman of many interests and talents: sewing, canning, gardening, ceramics, cards, and painting. Her passion and beautiful personality was deeply loved by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; and will be deeply missed. Mom will always be remembered for her kind heart, great cooking, and lemon meringue pies.

Mom is survived by her son, John W. Hofeldt; daughters Shirley M. Young, E. Jayne Scott, Connie M. Parratt, and Lynda K. Hofeldt; 12 grandchildren: Thomas Cross, Russell Nethery, Jayme Nethery, Tyrone Meeks, Shirlene Anderson, Antosh Cole, Amber Ludwig, Ronald Parratt, Christina Engstrom, Lisa Patorti, Jessica Maggard, Joshua Hofeldt; 10 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John W. Hofeldt; daughter, Jeanette Phillips; grandchildren: Crystal Walker, Bryan Kauppila, and Erica Kauppila; and brothers: William Carpenter, Donald Carpenter, Clarence Carpenter, and Lewis Carpenter.

Funeral Services will be held on July 18, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Vase Funeral Chapel in Green River, Wyoming, 263 E. Flaming Gorge Way, Green River, Wyoming.

Viewing will be held on July 17, 2014 from 5:00 " 7:00 PM at the Vase Funeral Chapel in Green River, Wyoming, 263 E. Flaming Gorge Way, Green River, Wyoming. Arrangements are entrusted to Metcalf Mortuary (435) 673-4221.
