Obituary

LaVerkin, UT - Douglas Fletcher Prince, 87, passed away with his family by his side, March 25, 2010, in Hurricane, Utah. He was born in St. George, Utah, January 4, 1923, to William H. and Lida Cox Prince. He married the love of his life, Beth Ola Gubler, May 22, 1941, in the St. George LDS Temple. She has been his loving and devoted companion for nearly 69 years. Douglas was the oldest of six children: Wayne, Jack, George, Ronald and Marlene. He worked at his dad's service station, restaurant, and camp ground growing up. He set state records in the 100 and 220 yard dashes and graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City. Douglas went to work at Salt Lake Cabinet and Fixture until his country called him to serve in WWII. There he earned the rank of Platoon Sergeant and received military honors. Following military service he worked with his father and brothers at Prince Block Company in Salt Lake City. Douglas, an entrepreneur and inventor, created several businesses; The Old Hickory Caf, Doug's Family Shoes & Clothes, and later, Castone Development Corp., where his sons, sons-in-law, daughters, daughters-in-law, brothers, brother-in-law, sister, nephews, and grandchildren worked. Douglas loved having his large family around him which includes: 13 children, 82 grandchildren, and 120 great-grandchildren at last count. Douglas was an inspirational father, a caring grandfather/great-grandfather and most of all a loving husband. He also enjoyed hunting, working in his greenhouse, and raising pedigreed rabbits. Douglas loved the Lord and gave his life in service to others. As a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he had the honor to serve as Seminary Teacher, High Counselor, Bishop - four times, Counselor in the Stake Presidency, senior missionary with his wife - twice, and Mission President. Douglas is survived by Beth, his wife; his children and spouses: Peggy & David Miller, Leon & Leah Prince, Gwendolyn & Leland Mecham, Bill & Julie Prince, Frances & Kerry Williams, Warren & Emma Prince, Sam & Heidi Prince, Leland & Wende Prince, Kim & Gayla Prince, and Sheila & Brent Knight. He was preceded in death by his sons: Steven, Danny, and Donald and brothers: Jack and Wayne. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the LaVerkin LDS (West) Chapel, 70 South 300 West, LaVerkin, Utah 84745. Visitation will be held Monday, March 29th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah 84770 and on Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:45 at the chapel, prior to services. Interment will be held Wednesday, March 31st at 1:00 p.m. at Valley View Memorial Park, 4400 West 4100 South, West Valley, Utah.
