Obituary

Edson Porter, 78, beloved husband, father grandfather and friend passed away Sept. 18, 2009 in St. George, UT due to complications of Parkinson's Disease. He and his twin sister Josie were born May 6, 1931 in Tooele, UT to Nathan and Violet Heggie Porter. Met his eternal sweetheart and best friend, Veda Miriam Jensen, at age 14 and later married her Dec. 27, 1950. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Graduated Tooele High School. Served in the US Air Force. Graduated Stevens Hennigar Business College in accounting. Lived in Tooele, Minneapolis, and West Jordan. Worked as an accountant and controller. Retired from Signetics Corp. He was a faithful member LDS church Served as councilor in the bishopric, high priest group leader, Sunday school superintendent, seminary teacher, temple worker and home teacher. Served a mission with his wife in the Samoa, Apia mission. Following their mission they retired to Hurricane, UT. Ed was a unique man who lived a life full of love, honor, hard work and humor. He was an intelligent, loving, loyal and dedicated man who desired the best for his family and those whom he associated with. He was readily able to use his quick wit and humor to lighten a mood or brighten a soul. He was a kind and gentle man beloved by all. He is survived by his wife, Veda, children, Bruce (Cresta) Porter, Bull Head City, AZ, Gregory (Wendella) Porter, Tulsa, OK, Sharon (Marco) Martinez, Spanish Fork, UT, Jeffrey (Marceen) Porter, Layton, UT, sister, Ruth Plichta, Tucson, AZ, 19 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Dale, granddaughter, Jessica, siblings Nathan, Berdine and Jose, Funeral services will be held Thurs., Sept. 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hurricane LDS 1st Ward Chapel, 270 S. 700 W., Hurricane, UT. A viewing will be held Wed., Sept. 23, 7 - 8 p.m. at Hurricane Valley Mortuary, 140 N. Main St., Hurricane, UT. Graveside services will be held Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, at 11:30 a.m., at the West Jordan City Cemetery, 7800 S. 1300 W., West Jordan, UT. A visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 25, from 10-11 a.m., at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St. Midvale, UT. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary 4735-673-4221.
