St. George, Utah - Edward Ray Carter, 80, passed away quietly into the hands of his Father in Heaven and his earthly father and mother on July 3, 2011. Ray was born March 23, 1931 in Spanish Fork, Utah. He grew up in Provo, Utah and graduated from Provo High School. Ray joined the U.S. Navy in 1948 and became a Petty Officer 3rd Class, fighting in the Korean conflict. He was very proud of his country, the armed services and his military service. Ray was married and sealed to his sweetheart, Betty Louise Robbins of Orem, Utah on May 11, 1955 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Together they built a beautiful home and life in Orem and had seven children. He spent most of his career as a truck driver. Ray loved camping, fishing, hunting and prospecting. He enjoyed making beautiful wood furniture. His greatest joy however was to be with his wife, children and grandchildren. Ray is preceded in death by his father, Reed; his mother, Severena; and his brother, Ronnie. He is survived by his wife, Betty; seven children: Michael (Camille), Bart (Kellie), Gregory (Carrie), Roger (Stephanie), Raylene (Jeff) Long, Dallan (Deborah), and Sheralyn (Todd) Hopkinson; 22 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Norma, Alta and Connie. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 8, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Riverside LDS Ward Chapel, 2434 East Riverside Drive, St. George, Utah. Friends may call at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd in St. George, Utah Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the Chapel Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to services.
