Obituary

Edward Dale Griffee Veyo, Utah - Edward Dale Griffee passed away April 9, 2010. He went peaceful in his home with his daughters by his side. He was born on May 7, 1920 in Enid, Oklahoma. His mother, Ethel Mae Purdue, passed way when Ed was only two years old. So he was raised by his maternal grandparents, Joseph Littleton Purdue and Flora Neff Purdue at the request of his mother. In 1938, he left Oklahoma to come to Santa Monica, California to pursue an education as a technical writer. There he met Rayda Mae Williams and they were married on Oct 4, 1942. He served in the Navy during WWII. Ed worked for McDonald Douglas as a technical writer for about 35 years. Ed and Mae made their home in Hawthorne, California and raised 3 daughters, Judy, Susan and Janet. Later they moved to Fountain Valley, California for about 10 years. After retiring from McDonald Douglas in 1975, he and Mae moved to Veyo, Utah and he resided there until his death. Rayda Mae had passed away on August 6, 2002. Edward joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1954 after wearing out 7 sets of missionaries. The family was sealed in the temple in 1958. He served faithfully in the church throughout his life. For many years he served as ward financial clerk. Later while living in Veyo, he served many years as Stake financial clerk for the St. George West Stake. Ed loved sports and especially golf with the "Bandits". He was a fan of the California Angels, the Utah Jazz and BYU football. He is survived by his three thin daughters, Judy Andrews, Susan Kern and Janet Crays, fourteen grandchildren and 28 grand-grandchildren, two brothers, Richard Griffee and Charlie Palmer and a sister Betty Jeanne Buurma. Services will be held on April 17, 2010. A visitation will take place in the Veyo Ward LDS chapel, 176 E. Center St., Veyo, Utah, from Noon to 1:00 p.m., followed by a graveside service at the Veyo City Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
