Obituary

St. George, Utah - Edwin B. Kerins passed away March 7, 2012. He was born May 17, 1928 in Waterbury, Connecticut to Edward Francis Kerins and Catherine Cecelia Bagley Kerins. He married Margaret Remick.

Ed studied piano at Julliard School in New York City. He served in the U.S. Army for two years and was stationed in Germany. In 1958, he began his career in broadcasting. He worked at several radio stations in Connecticut and Florida before joining WNYC in New York in 1963, where he did the "Around New York" Show. In 1967, he went on to work for the U.P.I. Radio Network. During his 25 years with U.P.I., Ed covered a variety of assignments including newscaster, reporter, interviewer and feature editor. Stories he covered included The Apollo 11 & 12 moon missions, the invasion of Grenada, the Dupont Plaza Hotel fire in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the Olympics in Korea and several national political conventions. He was the New York Bureau Chief for U.P.I Radio when he left in 1992. Ed spent his final two years before retirement with The Radio Division of The Wall Street Journal in New York City.

Ed was preceded in death by his dear wife, Margaret"Peggy" who passed away on August 9, 2003. Ed and Peggy were married for five days short of 48 years. Ed is survived by his daughters: Laura Zobel of Tully, NY and Katie Plaxco of Yuba City, CA; his son, Paul of Placerville, CA; and grandchildren: Carolyn Zobel, Danielle and Zachary Plaxco

Memorial services will be held Monday, March 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. George Catholic Church, 259 West 200 North, St. George, Utah. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
