Obituary

St. George – Elaine Allred, age 87 passed at her home in St. George, Utah, surrounded by her loved ones, on the afternoon of April 29, 2022. She was born July 18, 1934, in Manti, Utah to Alden K. and Hazel Jessen Barton. She married her sweetheart, Douglas Vance Allred, in the Manti, Utah Temple on September 9, 1953. It was a union of love to last through eternity.

Elaine was the youngest of six children raised in Manti, Utah. She was a beautiful blue-eyed girl with blond ringlets and was truly the apple of her whole family's eye. She loved all music, playing the flute, violin, and piano.

She moved to Salt Lake City her senior year, when her father became Commissioner of Agriculture for the State of Utah. Elaine attended and graduated from East High School in 1952, while also attending LDS Business College. Elaine returned to her home in Sanpete County to attend Snow College, knowing her sweetheart, Doug Allred, would be there, starting their 70-year love affair. After graduating from Snow College, they married and began their life journey together.

Supporting Doug in his continued education, they went to Colorado State University, Utah State University, graduated and started Doug's teaching career at Delta and began their family. The summer of 1962, the family moved to St. George, Utah. Elaine quickly became involved in church, civic, and community responsibilities. She enjoyed singing soprano with the Melody Moms, Literary Clubs, and serving many callings in the 6 th Ward, including Relief Society President.

In 1970, Elaine graduated from Southern Utah State College with top honors, being a recipient of the Pestalozzi Award, and began her 25-year First Grade teaching career. She had a love for teaching children and serving her community. Her dedication to the Savior, Jesus Christ, and his teachings made her an excellent example to her family.

Elaine is survived by her husband, Douglas V. Allred, and their four children: Debra Allred Gifford, Annalee Allred, Gary D. Allred of St. George, Utah, and Lance B. Allred of Ivins, Utah, also her sister-in-law, Linda Baxter (Rick) and many nieces and nephews. She loved her role as "Aunt Elaine."

Doug and Elaine were blessed with nine grandchildren: Aimie Allred (deceased), Vance Allred (Sarah), Abbilyn Christensen (Tyler), Ryan Bowers (Jennifer), Garen Beau Bowers, Holly Ann Harris (Troy), Russ Gifford (Marsha), Brett Gifford (Jenny), and Alex Gifford (Rochelle). Their posterity includes twenty-five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
