St. George, UT - A sweet ray of sunshine, our mom and grandma, Elaine Wright Cummings, 89, returned to dance with her sweetheart, March 17, 2010 at her home in St. George, Utah. She was born Ruth Elaine to Roy and Gladys Pickens on October 4, 1920 in Salisbury, Ohio. She was the oldest of 9 children. She married John Thomas Wright, Jr. who died at the early age of 26, leaving her to raise 4 small children. She later married the love of her life, Joseph Leslie Cummings, and they had one child together. Elaine was very proud of her children and their many accomplishments. Mom leaves behind her children Patricia Maynor, Jean (Bill) Luckey, Thomas Wright, John (Charmaine) Wright and Michael (Dalene) Cummings. She also leaves her step-children Joanne Boone, Barbara (Roy) Dew and Larry Cummings. She graduated high school with her youngest son, Michael, in 1980 and was so excited to finally receive her diploma. She considered her family to be her most treasured possession and Grandma loved each and every one of them. If asked she could recall all birthdays or memorable events in each of their lives. Her brothers and sisters were always thought of in the most loving way. She leaves a brother Eugene (Lynn) Pickens, and sisters Beatrice Chaplik, Delores Minor, Evelyn (Russell) Bragg and Carol (Ed) Morrissey. Elaine loved to do arts and crafts and made many things for her family. She was always working on something. Grandma enjoyed spending time with her family, was a great nurturer and enjoyed helping to bring her grandchildren into the world. She leaves 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, all who loved her dearly. Anyone that met or knew Elaine loved and admired her. Elaine was greeted with open arms by her husband Joe, her son-in-law, Matthew Maynor, her parents, brothers Ronnie, Franklin and Harold Pickens and a grandson, Timothy Cummings. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 22, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Redwood Memorial Estates Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah. Visitation will be held Monday from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary, prior to services. Interment will be at the Redwood Memorial Estates Cemetery.
