IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elizabeth "Liz"
Dayton
October 21, 1943 – March 14, 2025
Santa Clara, Utah - Elizabeth Anne Doty Dayton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at her home on March 14, 2025, surrounded by family.
Born on October 21, 1943, in Minneapolis, MN, Liz grew up in Studio City, CA where she graduated from North Hollywood High school in 1961. She attended Brigham Young University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in education in 1966. While at BYU, she met Lyman Dayton and they were married on July 31, 1965, in the Los Angeles California Temple. While living in Southern California, she gave birth to all five of their children. In 1982, the family moved to St. George, UT, where she resided for the rest of her life.
A committed member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Liz served in various capacities, including in Primary, Cub Scouts, and Relief Society. She was passionate about child development, parenting, and supporting families. For several years she ran the WCSD Family Center, teaching parenting classes and offering guidance to families, especially those facing challenges. A lifelong learner, she amassed an extensive library of books and was a regular at her book club for forty years.
Liz cherished time spent with her twenty grandchildren and great-grandchildren, finding joy in their laughter and milestones. She made holidays fun, exemplified by her "Witchalena" creations every Halloween.
Liz is survived by her husband, Lyman; her sisters Gigi Doty (Dick Butler) and Tina Walker (Marlan); and her children: Lyman (Miken) of Rocklin, California; Jenny (Kevin Downs) of Santa Barbara, California; George (Kandace) of Pleasant Grove, Utah; David (Stacy) of Alexandria, Virginia; and Tom (Mary) of Santa Clara, Utah. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Reed, Lily, Joe, Tess (Jordan Bohne), Kyle, Julia (Justin Roundy), David, Isaac, McKay, Hannah, June, Van, Wes, Lily (Dakota Faires), Ethan, Asher, and Jude; and her great-grandchildren: Belle, Gemma, and Leo Bohne.
Liz's unwavering faith, kindness, and dedication to her family and friends will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
